I never thought Rebecca Romijn was much of an actress...

...but she's quite good in this!

reply

Same here, never liked her but I like her on this show.

She did OK in most of what I've seen her do before this, but she has either grown in the business, or found her 'dream role' here, (maybe both).

In many ways, she seems to be 'mirroring' the attitude, intelligence, and humor Stana Katic brings to the show CASTLE (six seasons so far), plus warmth and a little bit of whimsy, (CASTLE's Nathan Fillion (FIREFLY/SERENITY) has the whimsy cornered...).
(BTW, if you like Stana Katic, be sure to watch the third of the LIBRARIAN series with Noah Wiley, THE CURSE OF THE JUDAS CHALICE... she actually sings, and has a very strong role!)

Rebecca clearly plays the "stronger character" in this show, and I hope there are more seasons to follow.

@mike: I used to like Stana Katic during the first couple of seasons of Castle but I started disliking her performances after the Kate-gets-shot-Castle-says-he-loves-her-Kate-can't-handle-it business. I don't see any "mirroring" of her in Rebecca Romijn's performances at all. Romijn used to be famous mainly for being married to John Stamos, but, at least to me, she really came into her own when she was on Ugly Betty. I was sorry to see her go when they scaled back the size of the cast. Romijn was the main reason I watched Eastwick, although that was the first thing I remember seeing Jaime Ray Newman in, and I've liked her ever since, too.

Your comment makes it sound like you think Katic is the better actor, and your opinion is fine, but I just wanted to chime in and say I think Romijn is just Romijn and her portrayals are hers and aren't mirroring anyone else's. I wasn't interested in seeing King & Maxwell until I heard she was in it. I'm not crazy about the Sean King character, but I do love Edgar!

I watched Eastwick

Glad to see another person who watched Eastwick!
Loved that show!

I REALLY liked Eastwick. I loved the way the women grew and came to know themselves. I especially liked seeing Paul Gross again. Too bad the characters never had a chance to really grow and develop because the TV landscape now is so, well, stupid.

Sorry for the delay in this reply.

When I wrote "mirroring" Stana Katic's CASTLE character, (Det. Kate Beckett), I listed the attributes of the character that Rebecca brings to this show, as a compliment, not as an allusion to 'copying'... That's NOT happening.

Silly me, I thought Rebecca was famous as a Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition model. Then she married Stamos, and Conan, on his late night show, had a long running 'gag' about how STAMOS 'stole' the woman he hoped would be his wife... *smile*

I enjoyed the writing, and continuity, of the CASTLE series for several seasons, where they even used the bullet wound scar that "Kate" received in a couple of episodes the next season. Unfortunately, the writers (maybe?) changed, or something, and that level of continuity has faded away in favor of later plots... And I agree, the "Kate-Rick" thing has increasingly gotten old, but I still watch it too.
(BTW, That gimmick was used on the TV series MOONLIGHTING for many years until the series was ending, and the two leads got married. I'd guess the odds are high on a plot repeat in CASTLE.)
At this point, I don't see the writing in MAXWELL & KING going in that direction.

I somehow never watched ANY of the other two shows mentioned that Rebecca was in, so I'll check on those if I can find them - Must have been my absurd work schedule, or taking care of my aged Mother-In-Law, (maybe cable shows?) that had me miss them so completely.

I've heard of her, but have never seen her in anything, so my expectations for her were very low. but I've been pleasantly surprised, too. She adds a lot to the show.

This show was basically Pepper Bennis with a gun. She was great in both shows and its too bad both were cancelled after just one season.
