He doesn't look exactly like him, not so much, but his mannerisms, and voice definitely resemble him.
Only thing left to see is if he has his stage presence, not so much of that was seen, in the trailers I've seen.
You have everything ignorantly backwards.
in the trailer, his voice is not quite right , theres 3000 hours of jimi talking and singing , you would think he would do a better job mimicking his voice
but like i said hes a crap actor what do you expect
the voice i heard on the trailer , hes not as cool and laid back as jimi was
plus that damn mole on his face
plus did i mention andre is a crap actor ??
true. also i find it kinda insulting to get hendrix portrayed by andre 3000, even if he would have been a good actor. that's like jim morrison getting portrayed by justing bieber, if you catch my drift.

Fall on a knife. How could you honestly compare Andre 3000 to Justin Bieber? That's more so insulting to your own intellect than to Andre. He is one of if not the greatest rapper alive.
The voice, to most viewers, is nearly spot on. It's the appearance that is lacking. Fans of Jimi shouldn't worry so much, though, because this would have to get rave reviews to bring in an audience, and I seriously doubt it will.
Andre is maybe one of the top ten rappers alive, he sure the fck isn't number 1!
You will never see Eminem or Nas put out some bubble gum pop sh*t like "Hey Ya".
Dude was bonkers in the early days of Outkast though.
Come on, now! Eminem sure as hell makes his own version of pop music. As soon as the Eminem Show album dropped he was making stupid songs hoping people would laugh. He became a parody of himself. His latest music especially is definitely catering to a pop-music audience. Every track with Rihanna is a joke. He was bonkers in his early days though!
Nas I won't say anything against, he's been steady since day one in my opinion.
Andre may not be top 5 for all hip-hop heads, but he sure as sh!t isn't on the same playing field as Justin Bieber.
Justin Beiber being in the same sentence as Andre 3000 is so dumb it's not even funny. Beiber is a no talent ass clown.
If you think a song about beating your girl is pop just because a pop singer sings the hook, you and I have a differing opinion on that word. Eminen has certainly had his fair share of "pop" singles but "Hey Ya" was beyond pop. The sh*t was corny as hell. Did he even rap in that song or was he just trying to cater to the pop crowd that had probably never heard of him before the song?
Dude was Top 5 at his peak, but we can't ignore that he went soft as baby sh*t on that track. Even if he hadn't. Eminem and Nas will always be above him.
By the way, he really isn't a good actor. He's average at best with little to no range with his acting skills.
hahahaha. wow, an andre3000 extreme fan. that's cute.
"He is one of if not the greatest rapper alive. "
wow, and you have the guts to talk about insulting somone's intellect. i guess roses really smell like poo poo poo. xD
"laugh and the world laughs with you. Weep and you weep alone." - Dae-su Oh
Actually I think Roses is a great song - and all music is subjective sans Justin Bieber. His only sounds OK when it's slowed down 800%.
It looks like we've got common ground in Oldboy though, so you're OK in my book.
thanks man.
btw, true story: a while ago i was listening to the radio and i was thinking to myself "damn, that's the worst kesha song, that she has ever released". turns out it was actually a track from good ole justin. xD

How much more laid back could he have been?
It just seems to me that you don't like Andre 3000.
Casting is crazy, you have people like Hugh Jackman playing wolverine, and not many people complain, and the many many casting errors of horrible casting managers.
Andre 3000 closely resembles Jimi, although they don't look exactly alike, the idea is to find someone very close who can still be the character, and Andre 3000 does that.
But hey, that's your opinion.
My opinion is that he nailed it.
i mean the fact that they have about 3000 hours of hendrix interviews
he talks slow and laid back , andre' talks faster and gayer
and yes i might be biased cause they hired a hack to play jimi

That's because Hugh Jackman can actually act. That distinction has eluded you, making your comparison completely worthless and misguided.
FINALLY! Someone who understands how dumb, blasphemous, ignorant it was to cast Hugh Jackman as Wolverine!
shareIf you knew ANYTHING about Wolverine, you would know that Hugh Jackman was a poor casting choice to play him.
shareI remember years ago 3000 said if they ever made a movie about jimi he was gonna play him...don't know how this movie will be but...A. 3000 is the greatest rapper alive and much more then a hack
shareKeyword here is RAPPER. As in he isn't an ACTOR. But getting some phony actor to play a dynamic and demanding role such as Jimmy's, doesn't matter because he sorta kinda looks like him, and that's all that matters. Face facts, from every role I've seen of his, Andre has no subtly, no range, no control of his sincere emotions or voice, he can only play loud cartoony characters well and anything that resembles realism catches him all shaky
shareIm a huge fan of hendrix, the only thing with Andre that seems off is that Andre is a bit darker in skin tone than hendrix. He resembles him enough, and for me, the voice was damn near spot on. I've watched many interviews of Hendrix and I'd be lying if I said Andre didn't sound like him.
shareI think Jimi Hendrix had a very unique personality, aura and stage presence that nobody else could capture even if they tried. Wouldn't matter who got the part; I think it would be disappointing no matter what.
My only gripe about casting a rapper in this particular role is, obviously there will be scenes depicting Jimi performing live & playing guitar. Can Andre Benjamin play guitar at all?
Yes he does. How well is debatable but he plays...
BUGS
you obviously know nothing about andre...he plays multiple instruments, sings and raps, looks like hendrix, and displayed his mannerisms just fine from what I've seen so far...the writer/director has a credible resume, and I doubt would cast andre based solely on looks if he was terrible at everything else
shareIt's like someone trying to play Muhammad Ali. No one can get it QUITE right. Some people are just inimitable. I do think Will Smith did a great job but no one can do Ali like Ali.
shareGreat example of what I'm talking about, the scene when he freaks out over the money and the other scene when he stabs the guy to death. He's an awful actor.

I just mentioned Four Brothers, his delivery is way off most times in the film, he delivers lines way too phoney THIS DETROIT! And him all yelling at his brothers for thinking he sold their mom out. Or the scene when Mark's the football game and he's beside him talking sense, and the way he standing and talking it looks like a dance sequence.
The guy's alright, but he has limited range, limited ability, and limited talent, and giving him the role of Jimi Hendrix is undermining to Jimi Hendrick's presence, personality, and memory. But I'll wait until I see it, but I'm honestly just going by what I've seen of his work (Revolver, and Four Brothers).
Rather see Don Cheadle play Hendrix then Andre 3000 not even a real actor...
