Queen

In the trailer an interviewer makes reference to The Who and Queen being two competitors

Queen were not around at the same time as Hendrix

that's strange, i came here to say this and then you posted it 10 minutes later.

My dad noticed this as we just watched the trailer! I thought that maybe there was a small crossover but hendrix died the same year queen were formed so obviously not.. a bit disappointing really, that the filmmakers didn't even try and get their facts right!

reply

That's because she didn't say Queen, she said CREAM

She did say Cream. But although Queen were basically unknown, they were a band while Jimi was still alive.

Smile changed their name to Queen in late 1970. Jimi died September 1970. So, if Queen were around while Jimi was alive, it was for a few days. Deacon did not join Queen until 1971 and the first Queen album wasn't released until 1973.

I too heard "Queen" when the woman asked. Even went back to listen again. Of course, Cream makes complete sense. They were huge at the time.

I heard "Queen" as well in the trailer, and came to this board for the same reason as others in this thread.

After reading this thread, I went back and listened to that snippet from the trailer, and I still hear "Queen." I don't think it sounds like "Cream"... unless the woman speaking has a speech impediment.

I also heard Queen, but it should have been Cream. Cream was generally in the same genre as Hendrix and the Experience, more so than The Who. Cream was more blues based than Hendrix, but they both used new guitar tones, new gadgets like wah wah pedals, had songs with psychedelic, drug-related imagery, and generally had a harder edge. A more subtle connection between them was that both used drummers who had jazz backgrounds, as opposed to Keith Moon of the Who.

The Who were at the time more straight ahead rock, and were not what I would consider a psychedelic, or acidic, band.

I also heard "Queen" but that's because I'm a fan and was listening to their 1st album in the car a few days ago. But right after I heard "Queen" I realized she must've said "Cream".

I listened several times and she is saying QUEEN...while Cream were big at that time that's not what she said. The producers/editors/whomever got it wrong. I can't put much stock in it if they can't get the details right. Also I think you pony up whatever to use Jimi's music. Just my 2 cents.

I listened it carefully, and she does say QUEEN, no one on Earth ever said Cream like that, especially in a movie.

She says "Cream," but because she's English, and she has a peculiar type of speech pattern called Rhotacism, it sounds like "Queen."

Rhotacism is the inability or difficulty in pronouncing the sound "r." In English, the most common occurrence of this is a pronunciation perceived as closer to "w." This makes the word "cream" sound more like "cweam," which in the movie, sounds like "queen."

She said "Cream", it's the UK accent, but if you listen carefully, she says "Cream"

I listened carefully to the trailer on my laptop with headphones. I'm a Brit. She said QUEEN. 100% no doubt. With other words she has no problem pronouncing "r". I'm surprised people can hear Cream. She did NOT say Cream. No way.

… But she should have. Horrendous error by the film makers.
