World's oldest 14 year-old

I don't know Leila Mimmack's real age but as Hattie she looked about 25.
Turns out she's 20. Must be my eyes.

Not your eyes, my first reaction when she was pedalling her bike was that if she is 14 I'm a duck-billed platypus.

She looked older as Caitlin, but not 25. She's actually 18.

I didn't realise it what the same girl until about 3 eps in. I think she looks better as a blond, I don't know what was going on with that side-sweep and the massive big dark hair-do but it gave her head such a weird shape, and she's a really pretty girl. The blond hair suited her colouring a bit better than the Emo look.

It's too cerebral! We're trying to make a movie here, not a film!

There you go. I much preferred her dark - among other things I thought her as a blonde made her look older. But discussion is what it's all about, and we don't all prefer the same things. I'm far too old for her anyway - I can just imagine the wagging tongues.

I liked it a lot, but I have a thing for when really pretty women have styles that aren't typical, it's rare.

is this based on something? if they really wanted to use that particular actress, couldn't they have bumped her age up a little?

reply

She certainly looked older than 14. Both twin sisters were played by the same actress.

She reminded me of a young Eva Green, lovely-looking girl

That was really lousy casting.

The actress's deportment and speech in addition to her appearance made her look at least 20.

And the director either did not require her to lower her age by using a higher pitched voice or use very young teen movements (like the young adults in Waterloo Road do) OR she was incapable of it as an actress. Either way it was a fail.

When I figured out she was the twin of the 14 year old it just did not compute at all. I know sometimes they have to cast older than 14/15 actors and actresses to play that age due to the hourly restrictions on younger ones.

But that was ridiculous. It marred an otherwise cast of fairly believable people.

I don't know why they didn't make the twins ages be 17 or 18. I don't know if they did it to try to make what might have happened and actually happened to Hattie more dramatic. It wouldn't have made a difference seeing as we didn't spend anytime with Hattie to emotionally bond with her. Also the information we learn about her didn't exactly exude the exploits of a 14 year old. Eighteen, fourteen what does it matter when the show was loaded with so many distracting guilty consciences. They were the main characters, not Hattie.

Yeah, Leila Mimmack was 20 when they shot the mini-series but I didn't think she looked 25....She definitely didn't look anywhere near 14 but could maybe have passed for 18. I did a double take when I learned that she played both parts b/c she looked soooo different as a brunette vs. blonde.
