Suffers from not being updated after 2005

To write it as a play in 2005, and then make it into a 2015 film set in 2005, is kind of awkward. The most glaring problem with this being when he's ranting and raving about the American government. That was very au courant at the time, but now sounds so incredibly dated (this would have been the case even by 2009). I'm not sure why he couldn't have just updated the script a bit, as this aspect does not seem integral to the plot or the general conceit.

Just because the current President is a Democrat, that doesn't mean his government is any better. Guantanamo is still in use, the President has his extra-judicial kill list (±90% of the drone strike deaths are innocent civilians), Afghanistan is the longest war in US history, Libya was just as illegal as Iraq, the Obama administration let the criminal bankers off the hook, I could go on and on. The Neo-Cons that supported Bush are now flocking to the Democrat party, because there really is no difference.

Why is there a need to change it? I know many people have a love affair with Obama, but I didn't care for Obama at all. Not a fan, in the least. So him having a negative view of the government is perfectly fine regardless.

It's not even about Obama, specifically. It's about the fact that it's not 2005. Even in 2007 this would have sounded dated. There was a mania on the left about Bush and the Iraq War there for a couple years that was all over the zeitgeist then but doesn't age well.

I agree. And political discourse wasn't the only thing I noticed. At the beginning, he asks to talk to his son on the phone, and his wife says something to the son like "hurry up, it's long distance ..." I don't remember the last time I heard of anyone worrying about long distance charges, and the whole concept seems somewhat irrelevant now.

Whoa, I didn't catch that. Was that even an issue in 2005? I guess maybe we were at the very end of that era then. Wild.
