I told my roommate that I couldn't take it the minute I saw it was shot to video and not on film. Even using Sony Vegas editing software, they could have used the elimination of every 7th "frames" to mimic film, which a free copy can be downloaded.
I know the closed caption referenced the wrong birds making the wrong sounds.
This movie is offensive to real witches, Wiccans, Pagans, and practitioners of Vodou.
For Rachel to have been a professional journalist, out of journalism school she was too meek in nature. Journalist are aggressive and don't back down. So were Greg and Rachel a couple and he knew she was crazy? Was Joe and Jason gay? They were of the age to have been married and have a family, but then again same can be said of me and my roommate - we call it bitter after divorces... LOL!
The round powder house was square inside and that really bothered me. There is one in Williamsburg and in Charleston in the historic area. The Powder House used in this movie was beautiful.
There should have been more money spent on the post production A/V because the sound effects were mixed horribly and to hot in the mix. The voices were not mixed for 5.1 dolby or 5.1 surround and if they were, then it came across zero in the center channel, hot in the nearfields, zero in the rear and unbalanced. Audio for Video can enhance or degrade the video.
I always watch for the amount of money spent on the film companies intro blurb and the quality of the name choice for the production company. Money was allotted for a pretty actress and the actor playing Paul, those were familiar faces. I'm not into name actors but they can add stock personality, but actors trying to make a name do usually work harder unless they act out campiness. I really can't imagine a black actor playing the part of a southern plantation slave and being in Mass.
The audio for a cell phone can be best captured using a cheap SM 57 mic'd thru a Pignose amp and then amp tracked into the film.
