Using the N -word in Prime time and Daytime/Late night talk shows

Wow that brought back a lot of memories

I do recall watching the Richard Pryor Show, watched that Carson and SNL episode too, but I had forgotten about the Dinah Shore episode...WOW!!!

As a kid hearing that word on the shows...in the late 70s did not even phase me or my family back then...now I can not imagine hearing that today on anything outside of HBO/Showtime.

"Vive la mort, vive la guerre, vive le sacre mercenaire."

Yeah I even remember watching his SNL skit with Chevy Chase where they go back and forth with nig... and honkey in reruns during the day in the early 90's late 80's with my parents. It's crazy how things have become so uptight. The words are wrong when used in a hating way but to take them from comedy is really too bad.

There are so many bits that were hysterical back then. That was the beauty of SNL because nothing was off limits. Uptight is the best word to describe the world today.

I didn't remember anyone saying N on tv back then, but I guess it wasn't a big deal. Although it's still commonly used in that form, or a variation. We just don't hear it said openly.

I heard a lot of words on television in the '70s that I never heard in my household. When we got cable, I heard a lot more of those words.

I'm fine with not hearing that word or many other words again, but I see the word police as very patronizing and self-aggrandizing. The "gotcha" game is not about compassion and sensitivity.
