Crossbones V Black Sails

Both series are a modern take on the golden age of piracy. They have gone away from the old Arrrr me harties, parrots and peg legs. I personally love this new gritty spin on pirates.

Which one does everyone like better? Crossbones or Black Sails?

Personally I'm siding with Black Sails on this one.

reply

I have yet to see any of the Black Sails episodes.
Now that Crossbones is ended, maybe I'll check them out.

in the front episodes I would have gone with Sails... but at the end Crossbones was much better and without as much of the contrived soap opera BS that Sails is using. Unfortunately Sails appears to be created by a committee that thinks they need chick-flick BS to get the female audience without understanding that it is a complete turn off to male viewers.

What "chick-flick BS" are we referring to, here?

"uh, there would be no a fight. there'd be a ryan sized hole in the wall- and i'd be gone."

Wow, can you please leave your femi-nazi nonsense at the door before you post in any forum. Movies and Television are not social media. They are not commercials either, they are an artistic medium. Just because some movies and television abuse this freedom to show contextually mismatched forms of misogyny or objectification for financial or sociologically motivated reasons doesn't mean that in some cinema it isn't suiting or relevant to the atmosphere of a given media.

Perhaps Black Sails isn't so much trying to accommodate specific demographics as it is trying to emulate an atmosphere of brutality and ruthlessness. Perhaps they are hoping the audience will approach this with an unbiased opinion. Enough to appreciate their work for what it tries to do and not see a misogynist conspiracy within their show.

The rape and prostitution bothers me as well. Not because it's in this show but because rape and prostitution or anything that objectifies women disgusts me. I still appreciate that it's in the show, why? It immerses me. When I watch it I feel the gravity of what women would of gone through in such a terrible place. I appreciate the performances the women who acted in Black Sails give. They do an amazing job. It also creates a contrast between the women who are unfortunate or brutalized and the women who manage to carve a chunk of power and respect in this dark world.

Seriously we get it, you hate misogyny and men. It's understandable. Leave it out of this type of forum please, unless the show in question is actually a documentary or some form of media surrounding the subject. Also refrain from generalizing an audience based on what you think attracts a person to said medium. I'm a man, i'm not a misogynist and guess what? I love Black Sails. However you can hate me for being a man. I'm okay with that and I cannot fault you for it.

Oh the irony of having rape, and prostitution in a tv show that is about PIRATES.

screw historical accuracy right, instead, throw out historicaly accurate representations because "feelings get hurt"

also, how is prostitution something that bothers you? it's a profession using ones body for profit, it's really no different then say using my body to break big stones into smaller ones for cash, it's a profession, and hell, elgally speaking it's not even illegal ina large portion of MODERN society, but in the 1700 yes, brothels existed, and in amny areas were LEGAL, hell, if prostitution was federally legal and RECONISED as a profession in teh united states, it would cut down on the vicitmisations that sex workers are subject to.

I like Black Sails. Crossbones is just way to clean...

Black Sails

I prefer black sails as well.

I liked Crossbones a lot more than Black Sails. Shame they didn't go for another season. Black Sails has a bit too much going on an isn't as easy to follow. And Crossbones had Nenna, played by Tracy Ifeachor. She played a rather nasty character, but she's also incredibly beautiful. Her part in the show ended before the last couple of episodes, so if it had gone to another season she would not have been in it. But I still think Crossbones was the better of the two, and I would love to have watched another season of it.
