what's the episode where Jim auditions for a film at the start?

There was a funny bit at the start of one of the episodes where Jim auditions for a film and fails and then goes back andschools the casting directors on how easy acting is and then they decide to cast him and he rejects them.

Which ep. was that and was the entire episode about acting?

That was episode seven ('fit to act'). The rest of the episode is still about acting, but not the audition or backstage process. It is more a look at taking acting classes and getting in shape.
