Brett's Wife

The subservient wife feeding her husband was a bit much... and annoying.

Agreed.

what about her emotionless reaction when he finished? lol

As a person who has been to several of these ultra marathons all over the country, it seems that many of the wives are not very enthusiastic about these events. Most of the runner's wives are overweight, apathetic baby machines or controlling bitches..It's weird. I could never marry someone who couldn't get excited about an achievement like this

reply

I think those overweight, apathetic baby machines and controlling bitches you saw were actually long-suffering wives who didn't sign up to have a husband who was gone every extra minute of his life running around the block or through the woods to train for a whimsical experience that was all his own. Here is the analysis for each of your descriptors. Overweight: They have to deal with everything at home and have no time to exercise or take care of themselves because husband is out doing his own thing. Baby machine: Who else is supposed to have the babies? And let's assume husband was in on that decision, but after the fact takes no part in the actual work of raising a child. Controlling bitches: Being the adult in the relationship and taking care of the day-to-day mundane facts of life like cleaning, cooking, paying bills, etc., etc., while husband is out playing with his little friends, running up and down the street and in the bushes, every weekend can do that to a person. And, yes, I speak from experience.

My memory is pretty hazy. I might be wrong , but I feel like maybe you're reaching for something here. I don't remember a subservient wife. I remember a wife and mother trying to shovel food down a mans mouth like a child who is in the middle of running a 100 mile race. They were like two moms nagging their son to eat.

IDK, kind of annoying for you to try and spin that whole thing into something it wasn't at all.

Edit: I guess you're probably not trying to spin anything. You just are bad at observations or whatever and you're sensitive to things that could in any way be perceived as chauvinist even when they're not.

I'm not reaching for anything JPENDLETON6. His wife made such an impression. It definitely stuck out from other characters in the movie. Try rewatching it. My observations tend to be pretty accurate.

reply

Just watched it, she was just helping him with his food i couldnt see subservience. she was wiping away tears when he finished hardly emotionless.

a single act between a husband and a wife and you call it subservient. probably takes a lot more observations before you can come close to saying that.

best so far this year:
The Revenant (2015)
A Gorgeous Girl Like Me (1972)
