Yeah that is not why. The ratings were coming up not down after his death. Try again. They cancelled it because they want reality garbage on their newly named network.

At the end of episode 2-07, we see Leo extremely still in bed and are left to wonder if he might be dead.

How does anything Patrick Sean Smith said about THIS show "prove" that shows with less ratings have been renewed? I asked you for an example. That means I asked you to name one show that had poorer ratings that got renewed. Instead you declared the words of Patrick Sean Smith to be the word of God.
As for what you are saying NOW:
The fact that the producer of the show in question tweeted "the ratings are FINE" proves nothing. When have you ever seen the producer of ANY show tweet "our ratings suck"? Have you never heard of spin? "Proof" would be posting a link to the show's actual ratings and having them actually be "fine". I might add, I posted a link to the actual ratings but made no assertion one way or the other about how good they were. People can judge the actual ratings for themselves.

Bottom line, the show was cancelled because it's ratings ranked it at the bottom of ABC-Family's list of shows. Granted Leo's death does seem to have had a negative effect, it does seem to me that the ratings were low with or without him.
Yeah, it did suck that Leo died. I like Scott Michael Foster, and thought he added a certain flair to the show. However, characters are going to die on shows, especially ones about terminal illness. It shouldn't drive anyone away except the ones who only watched specifically because of that actor or character.

Season one did great. They were renewed for season 2 before it even finished. But then they went off the rails. it became all about her love life and not her cancer. Leo was a HORRIBLE influence on her obviously because she refused to take her cancer treatments seriously. MOST cancer patients eventually accept it and do what they have to to live. April just gave up after barely even fighting at all. Dominic would have been better for her as he seemed to care more about her health then Leo. Leo was the type of person who basically told her to do whatever she wanted. That is why it angered me to hear that Leo's ghost would be the one to talk her into living in the end. Because he didn't really do that when alive!

The first half of season 1 did well. I wouldn't call the numbers stellar, but they were attracting over a million total viewers each week that first summer. But, in the winter half of the season the numbers declined, and they declined further in Season 2.

I don't know for sure why they couldn't hold their audience, I can only make semi-educated guesses. Some of this may be due to the loss of the PLL lead-in when they went to Mondays. They also started getting far less realistic with the cancer and alienated the cancer-savy/cancer-patient audience. As you said, MOST patients are going to get better at dealing with it, not worse.
As for the Dominic vs Leo thing ... both had their merits and both had their detracting points. Leo died, so he's no longer a factor really.

1)You're right about them moving the show pretty much marking the beginning of the decline in ratings. But, where else would you have them put the show? ABC Family has been using the Tuesday 9PM slot for new shows, moving them to another slot after 10 episodes or so to make room for the NEXT new show. This is so new shows can build an audience with the lead-in from the network's number 1 show. After that, a show either holds onto its audience, or it doesn't. Unfortunately, Chasing Life didn't. The network only had original programming Monday and Tuesday, 8PM-11PM, and Wednesday 8PM-10PM, and Wednesday was sit-com night. Their new slot wasn't all that bad. Locking out Tuesday 8 or 9 for PLL and "the next new show", 8PM and 9PM on Mondays are the two best slots available. 10PM is a bit late and a less desirable time either day. It would be nice if they aired dramas other days of the week, but they don't.
2) For those of us getting the show in their own time-zone's normal prime-time, I don't think that second airing was typically all that big of a deal, and we were more grateful to ABC Family for expanding their programming instead of repeating a show.
3) Yep. The direction got lost. The show's theme was "Live life well, because we ALL have a limited time in this world." The problem was, they wanted her to do things that realistically would end that life quickly however full it was. There was no balance, no give and take. In my opinion (for all the two cents it is actually worth), the shows writers stopped writing many of the stories for a cancer patient and wrote stories that better fit a healthy person. I suppose it is what they are more used to writing.
4) The show is a drama. The writers wanted some drama for April to have to deal with. The death of her husband counts as such drama. They can't write all "Happily Ever After" forever. Killing him did probably cost them some audience, but I don't think it was all that significant.

My last post was commenting on your own previous comments, item by item, the first two of which were the time change and loss of the second airing. Reading further down my previous post, you'll see I agree with you that their shift in focus, coupled with her unrealistic behavior hurt the show.

It was MORE then the time change though. The storyline shifted from her Cancer treatments to her love life. They showed her constantly treating her cancer like it didn't matter and always getting kicked out of clinical trials for not following the rules. ...

The second (9PM) is their newest drama that they think can benefit from a PLL lead-in. Chasing Life no longer fits that description, so that time-slot is out. That leave the third (10PM), which I contend is way worse than the second (9PM) Monday time-slot they actually got. I realize you would rather they had deviated from their established programming plan and kept the show in that premium spot reserved for new shows trying to build an audience. But, the network has more than one show, and they want them all to be a success.

The only reason the second airing even occurred was because they weren't budgeted to run more than two different original shows that night, so why not air this new show an extra time to help it build an audience even more? Once they were in a position to, they expanded their programming to 3 different shows a night, and the redundant episodes got eliminated from the schedule. It makes sense. Most of the time TV shows only get one time-slot. The majority of a show's audience probably only watches once, not twice. And, if the viewers like that show they'll watch it when it is on or they'll time-shift with DVR, On-Demand, or whatever. That 9PM time is better for most people to catch when it actually airs. I realize you are catching the East coast feed on the West coast, and your times are different. But, the vast majority of us get the network in their time zone's prime-time.

In any event, I don't think the time-shift numbers are so huge that they would have doubled the overall numbers. And, comparing broadcast + time-shift to all the other shows, you have to take into account the other shows' time-shift numbers as well, and I think Chasing Life would rank the same if you do that. share

During the summer or winter regular programming seasons for ABC Family, at the time Chasing Life was airing, they were not regularly showing a movie in the time-slots I said were being used for original programming. And, don't forget you are getting the east coast feed and need to do the 3-hour time-shift math. And don't forget that I'm restricting it to the months they actually do original programming.
Before you start saying they could air the show on Thursday or during the Spring or Fall: They are only budgeted for the original programming they are airing when they are airing it. Original programming costs more. The actual production costs have to be paid. Syndicated shows and movies cost less because the production costs have already been paid. Have you not noticed how the cable networks are airing their original programming in the summer so they don't have to compete with the major networks' block-busters? They can pull more advertising dollars competing against the big networks' 2nd stringers and reruns. Whether you like it or not, television networks are businesses and constrained by the need to pull a positive cash-flow.
In any event, my point was that, given the time slots available in their actual original programming schedule (not some fantasy where any time YOU want to watch it is available), the time slot that the show got was not bad. It was one of their two available GOOD slots.
Don't worry about it Loiskatnissskywalker, Cardinal doesn't have a sense of humor and sarcasm is lost to her. She only sees things very narrow and singularly. Many of us have wondered over the years about a certain spectrum disorder.

I simply commented that sarcasm frequently goes over your head. It is a simple fact that it is a type of humor that you don't seem to understand.
As far as the spectrum disorder comment, that wasn't a joke, it is something that many of us have talked about. It could be an explanation for some of your behavior and your not understanding sarcasm. I volunteer with spectrum disorder kids and I see a lot of similarities. But since you are over 40 I imagine you would know by now if you had that diagnosis.
