My guess for the plot "twist" based on the trailer

I'm not a smurf fan in general and I have no idea if the Lost Village is an already established story or something, but after watching the trailer I had a guess for how the story will go:

Smurfette is the only girl in a village of male Smurfs. She sees these ~mysterious stranger Smurfs~ and she goes on an adventure with some of her Smurf friends to try to find their secret village. Once they get there, they discover that the Mysterious Smurfs, who are all covered up originally, are all girl smurfs! Surprise! It's a village of Smurfettes. Bonus points if it's a village of all female Smurfs with one male Smurf, to mirror Smurfette's situation. Smurfette is tempted to stay with the all female Smurf village, but in the end (and probably after an attack from the evil wizard; maybe both villages have to team up to rescue Smurfs or take him down or something) they all live together! Happily ever after.

How the hell do they reproduce? Apart from gay sex these beings would be sexless its just strange. Why couldn't the smurfs have been a race of beings that are about fifty fifty male/female?

reply

They don't reproduce. Baby Smurfs are brought to the village by a stork during a blue moon. Where the stork gets them from is a mystery even to the smurfs.

Smurfs were initially born from mutant spores that hatched from a natural seam of uranium oxide that got mixed with ectoplasm from ghosts.

I mean, why not? ;D

I liked the old cartoon better, where smurfettes were created by dark magic and initially explosive.
No point trying to show mercy to the stupid, they wouldn't know what to do with it anyway

It was nice to live in those days when creativity mattered a little more than pop culture and politics.

Now, almost everything's a remake or reboot and if there are any new stories brought to the screen, they tend to be quite terrible.

And then in the rare cases that something new IS legitimately well-written and made... the dim, jaded audiences don't want to see it because they don't know what it is and/or it lacks enough explosions (See: Kubo and the Two Strings).

Amen to that!!

are all girl smurfs! Surprise!
Yep, that ploint point was spoiled quite a while ago ๐Ÿ˜Š
An early teaser poster even had images of two new Smurfettes on it. They have dark hair and wear a similar jungle style outfit.

I would have been much happier if they'd been Snorks. In some sort of on-land SCUBA suits. SCOLBA, if you will.

Ah, okay! I had only seen the trailer that just released, so I didn't know it was already confirmed. It was a fairly obvious "twist" so I'm not really surprised it's true :)

How about once they find the all female smurfs they start reproducing sexually and there is no longer a need for that mysterious phenomenon of once in a blue moon a stork delivering a new baby smurf?
