Why didn't she realize that she was the that man from the past

Before she time traveled-As she knew what the person looked like.............So must of put two and two together -As I know she didn't look in mirror for a long time after she had the op done but then did and then talked to The Barman

I'm just going to flip a switch for my response here:

"Why don't you realize that your [username] is [theme involving your username]?! You must be as slow as [current undermined ethnic group] - I can't believe it!"

Your Homeboy,

Fred

Wow this is like IMDB boards all over again with trolls, I asked a question now give me an answer!
My username has nothing to do with this post so is irrelevant!

There is a scene when she is around 16yo and looking in the mirror and she says something along the lines of 'I don't even look at myself in the mirror anymore'.

When re-watching it you will notice it, especially if yo are looking for it. One of the many little hints that are in just about every scene.

Not sure what portion you were talking about so I'll assume it's her knowing she's Ethan Hawke

In the very beginning she (her face is never shown) is chasing the fissle bomber in some basement type of thing . The bomb goes off and burns her face really badly and had to go through facial reconstruction surgery.

That is why the women in the bar and the barman don't look alike and why she didn't know who he was.

No, I think what the OP is saying is that the John who tells the story to the barkeep in 1970 would remember that when he was a female the man he met that "ruined his life" and could never find was himself (how he looks now as a man), because he knows what he now looks like and would realize it is the same face.

No, the man who fathered her child doesn't look like the barkeep (Ethan Hawke). His face is the reconstructed burned face of Jane AFTER she had the surgeries which turned her into a man.

She had not seen herself that way, due to not having looked into a mirror since before the operation.

The man who fathered her child doesn't look like "young Jane," nor like the barkeep (Ethan Hawke). Hawke's face is the reconstructed burned face of Jane AFTER she had the surgeries which turned her into a man.

The man who fathered her kid is Jane AFTER her transgender surgeries, but BEFORE she had the burn reconstruction.

She had not seen herself that way, due to not having looked into a mirror since before the operation.

I must say, if that was the same actress, I didn't put the two together, though I was pretty sure "John" was a woman in drag when I first saw him in the bar. It was the voice more than the face.

I don't buy that she doesn't know what she looks like all those years after the operation. She would have seen herself as the new man at some point and recognized herself as the mysterious man she met when she was still a woman all those years ago.

It's hard for me to argue that point.

I guess I just suspended disbelief, if for no other reason than to see how it would end.
