i can't believe this won for best oscar

i just saw this movie and the act of killing and i have no damn idea how the hell this movie won for best oscar just baffles me. the act of killing was amazing in every sense. how do you all feel?

I agree, i also thought that the 2 other nominees; Dirty wars and the Square were much better as well, much much better, it must have been a political decision

reply

Square as in the Egypt Film. And act of killing.

Both are so good that they should have made 'extra oscars'- but yeah, this doc about the singers is *eye-opening*.

I would give it 3rd place, just for Merry Clayton, wow?

reply

Yea out of the movies nominated, this should not have won. Not to say its bad but it's just not as moving as act of killing for example.

reply

yah act of killing was pretty intense from start to finish and the details of what they did to people were so very brutal. i don't think they felt any guilt for what they did to people. they were to busy having fun and laughing.

100% agree. 20 Feet From *beep* was a very weak documentary. I thought documentaries were supposed to be informative, insightful, and thought provoking. Not this. The Square was fantastic, The Act of Killing was emotional and great. Hell, Cutie and the Boxer was better than this crap.

I enjoyed this, but The Square blew me away. (Only nominee I haven't seen is Cutie & the Boxer)

Stories We Tell was the best documentary of 2013

I generally enjoy documentaries about the music business. I've liked Darlene Love from the moment I first heard He's A Rebel (without knowing who was singing lead vocals) and have attended her annual Christmas Show. I might've worn out my original copy of Let It Bleed by frequently replaying Gimme Shelter with Merry Clayton's incredible vocal accompaniment.

Yet I found 20 Feet From Stardom to be not as good as I expected it to be. having known that it won the Academy Award for Best Documentary of 2013. While I enjoyed seeing archive footage of the backup singers performing, I found the editing to be somewhat disjointed. Before the performance of Lean On Me near the end of the film, I was waiting for that one moment where I could sense that I was watching a great film.

If it is what it is, what is it?

I haven't even seen The Act of Killing or this, but I was surprised this won. I'd never even heard of it. I might watch it on Netflix at some point.

reply

Dont watch act of killing... Lol

Watch it in a theather. Not on your Netflix.

It's not playing at any theater near me. Why wait for some theater to randomly show it? I do much prefer watching things in a theater, but ultimately, I enjoy things either way.
