from one of the singers who said that the British rock bands were trying to sound black. I don't believe they were trying anything of the kind.

the animals and stones sure were, also led zep and any other that were based on appropriating black US blues

They absolutely were. It's been said that the only English group that was not trying to sound like old black men was the Kinks.
