Season 4: Scotland got rid of the double jeopardy law?

I thought this was pretty strange, too. It's like going backwards in terms of civil rights. Near as I can tell, though, it's not really true and double jeopardy doesn't exist it Scotland except in really narrow cases which IMHO didn't seem to fit the plot of S4.

As an American watching this show, I kind of have to laugh at how easily people seem to roll over for the police, handing over information, phones, laptops without any warrants or apparent concern for self-incrimination.
