Response from Ann Cleeves

After weeks of trying to contact Ann Cleeves, I was finally somewhat successful.
She had stated in an interview about how Jack London really influenced many of the novels that the Shetland series is based upon.

After binge reading Jack London the last few months, I'm not sure where The Call of the Wild and such writings connect with her work?

I had sent many messages to Ann asking about the connection and finally got an response via email (even though a bit odd response). She claims many novels and authors have shaped and molded her work, she even went on to talk about music and artists that she admired. To answer my question, she claims Jack London did have some influence in the Red Bones & Raven Black writings, though I've yet to see it processed in the show. When I replied back and questioned in more detail, she failed to respond back. I responded back to her about a certain music group that she liked and she did take time to reply back to that, but once again did not go into detail about Jack London. I went and recorded a cover on my piano of her favorite song by that artist and she replied "Thank you so much, wonderful cover, you have very great talent, but I need to ask that you don't spend anymore time writing to me or sending me anymore videos, while I appreciate the thought and talent, I just ask you move forward, I don't know you, but do wish you the best"

I thought that was an odd reply, but I guess it was a nice way of saying bug off? Still wish I could have got more clarity on the Jack London influence

Sounds like you're one email short of a restraining order.

One has to wonder how a fan of mysteries can appear to not have a clue.

Sounds like she put a lot of energy into not answering the question. Go figure.
