So you have this computer genius Tony Stark...

...who invented an artificial intelligence and whatnot. But as soon as he finds some unknown computer code, he just lets it run on the mainframe, without any security measures, sandboxing, or something else?

It's like plugging in that USB flash drive you just found on the commuter train… you just don't do that.

Just saw it from beginning to end for the 1st time; I said the same thing! "Just let it run on its own!" I don't download known backdata to a mainframe without sitting right there! Idiotic! Pretty good though; right in line with the animated series! I see they conveniently got rid of Thor & the Hulk since I heard they aren't in "Civil War!"  

To him, JARVIS was a security measure (as Cap says later in the film, JARVIS is Avenger Tower's first line of defense). Also, though we know that Ultron was able to take control of the mainframe once he became sentient... we don't know that the sentience integration trials were actually being run on the mainframe (as far as I'm aware, neither he, JARVIS nor Banner specifically state that they're running the tests on the mainframe - the only time the mainframe got mentioned, I think, is when JARVIS tries to contact Stark but finds that Ultron has locked him out of the mainframe - though admit I might need to rewatch to confirm that).

The unknown quantity here is the alien technology/a freakin' Infinity Stone (you know, one of the most powerful artifacts in the universe). Tony could have set up every single security and countermeasure he could possibly think of and because it's an Infinity Stone in play, it still could have ended up happening the way it did.

Agent Hill: ...Then aliens invaded New York and were beaten back, by among others, a giant green monster, a costumed hero from the 40's.... and a god.

Agent Ward: I don't think Thor is technically a god.

Hill: Well...you haven't been near his arms.

Bingo -- Tony was a little too sure of himself (his main weakness)

So you have this IMDB poster mbirth and he makes this huge assumption about what precautions Tony may or may not have taken then he starts a thread about it.

You just don't do that.

Reading my signature constitutes admission that I am correct. (Too late)

That was one of my big issues with the film as well. Both Tony and Bruce were classically trained as well as being super geniuses. They know and understand proper development procedure. Its just really annoying that Whedon had to fall back on the classic "Intelligent People doing really stupid things" trope in order to actually advance the story. Age of Ultron was such a let down on so many levels.
