The usual, sentimental BBC claptrap ...
... I'm glad this was evident from the first episode. Now I don't have to waste any more of my life watching the rest.

Scenery is nice!!
Who's your fat friend?
zzzzz...
(to the show, not to you) Although I will agree with the other poster on the beautiful scenery.
I'd take a guess that blood, gore, car crash, etc. are your usual fare.
This series is OK in my opinion though I'd not rate it too highly. A pleasant enough way to wile away some time.
Hmm, yes - I suppose you're right: the last thing I really enjoyed on TV was 'Borgen', notorious for its blood, gore and car crashes.
shareSee-Ya!!!
shareSeeing a child getting his hand thrashed b a teacher with a cane for the 'crime' of being left handed doesn't exactly strike me as sentimental. If scenes like that bring back fond memories for you, seek professional help.
shareThis is anything but sentimental, except for the fact that you really to root for Middleton farm, and so towards the end of episode 2 I was a gasp at what might happen, only a positive response though I feel.
shareI also found sentimental not to be exactly the word I'd ascribe to this show.
Seering and gloves off harsh look at the century past maybe. But sentimental? Hm.
Gritty, realistic, thought-provoking. Shaping up to be an all-time classic. It is getting better with each episode. Anybody who can only be moved enough to pen a bit of BBC-bashing, is a moron, oin my opinion.
shareOne of the best drama series I've seen on TV for a long time. Its gritty and realistic and for most part believable.
How anyone can call it claptrap is beyond me
Maybe some of the negative posters on here should stick to Downton Abbey and Heartbeat or American dramas full of beautiful people and slushy happy endings
Tragically stereotypical comments from a Daily Mail "reader". Have you thought about getting a life let alone wasting it?

Aye lad your right by gum, nowt as sentimental as subsistence agriculture, common folk being kept under boot of feudal lords int big house. Total sentimental, shooting of working men int great war for not being immune to shell shock and suchlike.
There's sum as says we need to know t'past as to not repeat it, to which I says bollox. Forget t'damn thing, and trust all to thems as knows better than us, like th'bankers and thems as is the house of commons and th'other place, which'll see us to rights, good and proper.
Sentimental, or maybe tis th'OP who's a bit senti-Mental, and nowt else.
