Quite liked the film, but what happened to _____?

I was really, thoroughly entranced by this film, embracing both its successes and its minor flaws at times. But one aspect bothers me greatly: the unresolved issue of Fontaine. Did Sampson get a shot on him or miss him completely? Do we think he escaped or will be found by police? Will Jill perhaps get involved to avenge Sampson's death, by tracking down Fontaine and killing him (she did say she shot and killed a man before)? I wish that Hauck had at least wrapped up that most glaring part of the storyline.
