I found it extremely weird that the timid nerdy guy suddenly decided to explore the woods all by himself leaving his companion under the train. What was he thinking? They were supposed to stick together, fix the pipe (or whatever) and go back inside. Do you think more people would have survived if the nerdy guy had stuck to the plan?

It was frustrating that he did that, but I guess investigating the sounds was preferable psychologically to waiting there and not knowing what was making them. Or something. Other things about this movie bugged me more.
Yes. I got the guilt thing but it was still a stupid episode in an otherwise decent film.
