The damn canned door noise!

I'm a fan of horror films, which means unfortunately I watch a lot of bad crap from time to time. I noticed with this film (and quite a lot of others recently) that whenever they exit the train cart, they use this 'rusty door swings open' noise which I'm fairly sure has also been used in a lot of old videogames. Its the exact same noise which was so overused in the awful 'Harbinger Down'! Sorry for the rant, but this movie was 'decent' and didn't need to include a weird non-sensical canned sound.

hahaha, is it like the door in the early Resident Evil games?
in the game, there is usually a special cut-scene just to show the rusty gate opening with the creaking sound. haha

reply

Yes, exactly that. Its much worse in Harbinger Down though where they use it about 15 times.

I don't know if it's the same one, but there is definitely a door creak sound that I hear in just about everything! I feel like there has to be more options for a sound effect than just deciding to use door squeak #4 every time. It has become like the Wilhelm scream of doors for me. I never miss it!

I used to work as a sound-designer and I can tell you that this movie has a ton of cliché sounds.
I think they did it on purpose, because it is so obvious sometimes. Some of the howls are from cartoons and such.

I do not doubt you are right..on a related sort of note - do you know/remember the N64 game Goldeneye? There was a sound effect used in that game, when Natalya was shot or injured. She made a sound which I swear I have heard used in MANY other TV shows and movies. It was sort of a "OOFYAH"-type sound.

I guess there must be certain sound effects that are popular among sound effect people?

Let us not forget the heavily overused sound of all time No.1 top of the list.

Quake - PC Version

Door Opening/Closing

that one must have been used millions of times.

That sound, and the *beep* police siren «OUAH! OUwAOUU!» every time a police car comes into camera view!! Like a cop would blow the goddamned siren every time he parks somewhere.. The Eagle sound, with every damned desert scene........I digress..
