Holy Schnikes!

I watched this movie because it was made by Kevin Farley and, on a good day, he reminds me of his brother, Chris. It's kind of like Jim to John Belushi. Anyway, there have been a few of these found footage parodies made -- Paranormal Calamity, Supernatural Activity, 30 Nights of Paranormal Activity... (etc.), A Haunted House, Scary Movie V -- which have largely been hit and miss, and like this one, funniest in small doses. I understand why these movies keep getting made, though; because they're improvisational, on the cheap and easy enough to cobble together, and this movie uses that knowledge to its credit, spoofing the genre through a number of self-aware industry in-jokes.

There are even a few surprising guest stars here, including Kevin Sorbo, Deep Roy, Fred Stoller, John Farley (two Farleys for the price of one!), and best of all, William Katt (in his first haunted house performance since House IV), who is freaking hilarious, playing some approximation of Mickey Rourke. Actually, he's playing himself, and there's a send-up of The Greatest American Hero (and The Human Centipede), which is pretty damn funny. Also, this movie contains the worst sex tape ever filmed. So yeah, if you enjoyed any of those titles I listed above, then you should find something to like here. Oh, and don't miss the Raiders of the Lost Ark warehouse scene after the credits.

I agree with pretty much everything you've said. Of course, this is a cheap cash-in on the paranormal/found footage parody fad, but at least it's self-aware enough to make fun of this fact. Plus, many of the jokes have a certain spontaneity to them, which, in my opinion, makes up for some of the comedic misfires, like that spectacularly unfunny drawn-out sex scene or the FLIR farts.

It's not a great flick by any means, but it's still good for a couple of chuckles, and as far as current parody movies go, it has a pretty talented cast. The Farleys do their thing well enough and William Katt is consistently hilarious.
