An hour of my life I'll never get back

Makes me sad.

Moray is supposed to be a cross between Mr Darcy and Willy Wonka. Good concept, the only problem is the actor just can't pull it off.

Poor acting. Poorer writing. What were they thinking?

reply

Agreed, terrible writing, terrible acting.

I enjoyed the house and the frocks but sadly nothing else :(

For some reason, I now wish the Psychoville guys would do a period drama.

But, seriously, I liked it. I hope they keep Jonas really creepy and a keeper of dark secrets. Just wait until Pauline and Denise start meddling and figuring things out (with Sam's and Arthur's help). It's fun! And I mean that unironically.

It wasn't great.
It ticked a LOT of the period drama boxes, for example:
- pretty young thing falls for handsome mysterious "upper class" gent
- handsome upper class gent takes huge risk with his business but just about pulls it off.

My wife loves Lark rise & Downton but I don't think this will be a "must see" in our house.

Both main characters are disappointing.

I like it. It's gloriously dotty at times and a happy ending each week is guaranteed, if I wanted more serious fare I'd switch it off and read Dostoievsky. Plus Denise and Clara are gorgeous.

reply

I find Denise a bit boring (which is sad, because she's supposed to be some sort of badass future business girl), but I love the other girls.

reply

I don't read the book. So far, I'm on episode 2. I'm asking because I really don't like the character.

reply

The first two episodes didn't do much for me, but dangit I love period drama and so I stuck it out. At the 3rd things really picked up.

I didn't have a problem with the leads, I thought they did fine. They didn't knock my socks off, but it was enjoyable. Give it a try!

Till the gossamer thread you fling, catch somewhere, O my Soul.
