Question about scene where they meet Marianne's fans

I guess the point of this scene was to show how self-centered and arrogant Marianne was. It's just a guess because if that was it, I didn't feel it was done very well. In the scene, one of the fans says that Marianne's poetry "saved her life" and she's just "meh" about it. However, she was polite to both girls and didn't refuse to speak with them and so on. She wasn't super friendly and didn't show much interest in what they had to say but her reaction was still nice and correct.

But perhaps I got it wrong and that wasn't the point of the scene at all. What do you say?

you have a good point that maybe that scene was not needed --

i think maybe it was to show that the Poet is highly respected, which made the JLD character listen to her opinions and be influenced by them more than she would normally

i liked that her fans looked obviously lesbian

It seemed like some of the dialogue was cut in that scene, right after the women left. I wonder if the poet had made some comment or something.

I think that scene cemented the fact that Marianne was proper, yet cold.
