I say this because it can often be true. People get caught up it these situations and it's ruining in the long-term. Age is suppose aid one in realizing the error in doing so, however that is not always the case.

I believe that women are the one's who mostly do it - women often try to use the judgement of their (girl)friends to evaluate a potential boyfriend. Women are constantly nervous about making a "wrong choice", so they take all sources of information seriously, instead of just using one's own head. Men are much less guilty of such things, men mostly develop their own firm opinion about a woman and nobody else can affect that opinion.
