Cheating on one's daughter with her friend

Great movie, full on interesting characters and situations. One of the most interesting situations was how Eva "cheated" on her daughter by developing a "relationship" with her daughter's friend. I don't recall ever seeing such a thing happening in movies. Usually the cheating is restricted to romantic relationships or sometimes friendships. But cheating in a mother-child relationship - that's something new. And the resulting jealousy from the daughter and the friend's mother. The writer of the movie deserves praise for bringing such a curious situation to our attention.

I found nothing wrong in it. The friend was a young adult able to choose her own friends. It's also understandable that the others might not approve, and that's fine too. They simply need to work it out which shouldn't be difficult among open-minded people.

That was the most interesting aspect of the movie for me too - the relationship between Eva and Chloe. The mother of Chloe came across as very immature and selfish. It was like she was trying to compete with her daughter. It was clear that Chloe saw Eva as the kind of mom she wished she had. On the flip side, Eva's daughter was maturing and pulling away from her so Chloe's desire for a mom who behaves like an actual parent brought them closer. That was why Eva had more of a connection with Chloe than her own daughter. Unfortunately for both of them, you can't choose your family.
