James gandolfinis performance

I think James gandolfini did a good job in the film considering he hasn't normally done romantic films,

I love him , made me a little damp i the corner of my eye .

I thought he was excellent. I have a feeling this performance is closer to who he actually was than Tony Soprano. For starters, I think many people would be surprised to know that Gandolfini affected a way of talking, and a stronger accent, to create Soprano. It wasn't his natural voice, as he uses here.

He also turned in an excellent performance in "Cinema Verite". The movie itself was just okay, imo, but both he and Tim Robbins are quite good in it.

He's great in Get Shorty. Before he was Tony Soprano... John Travolta threw him down a flight of steps!

You probably saw this in the Trivia section, but just in case:
When promoting "Old Boy", Michael Imperioli was asked if he had seen this film, given that it featured "The Sopranos" co-star James Gandolfini. Imperioli said that viewing the trailer was enough, as it seemed closest to what Gandolfini was like, and that he couldn't bear to see his late friend through the entire film.

"All you need to start an asylum is an empty room and the right kind of people."

reply

No, that's very interesting! I had not seen that. I just intuited that it was probably accurate to his own personality given the natural, relaxed quality of the performance.

His acting in this movie reminded me of the Sopranos episode where Tony dreamed he was just a regular guy- -not a mobster. In that episode he got rid of his Soprano accent, too, and was very low- key.

In this role, I definitely believe you can't judge a book by its cover. He may have looked like a slob, but he was sweet, and wouldn't hurt a fly. The way Eva turned on him during that dinner party with her friends really was sad.

He lifts me clear to the sky, you know he taught me to fly.

Gandolfini was excellent in Enough Said but then again I've loved him in everything he's ever done. It's sad that such a talent was lost so young--he could have had an interesting career for as long as he wanted one. Sigh.

That said, Eva turning on sweet, kind, funny Albert in front of her friends (especially after he'd been so good to her) was very hard to watch. What a cruel thing to do--she definitely did NOT deserve to get him back. I couldn't stand JLD's character throughout most of the film.

He was superb here, and I respect him for allowing his weight and appearance to be a major focus on this film. It would feel phony without addressing those issues.

I recently watched the entire series of the Sopranos, and was looking forward to seeing Enough Said. I wasn't disappointed. Gandolfini was everything I hoped for.

The day he died I read somewhere that he had just parked out on a huge meal, bottle of wine, even eating Foi Gras which is like pure butter. He was a pig. I wonder if that role did a number on his psyche and threw him into a depression. I've never liked Gandolfini, but he has been is come decent movies ... I am just not one to credit actors for a good movie, except rarely. It is mostly writers and directors that make a good movie, and the fan worship here on MC I find kind of sickening. He is good in movies like these though. The one I particularly like is "Welcome to the Rileys".

He was great in this film. I wanted to see how he acted after watching Gandolfini in the Sopranos.

reply

I was glad that we seen this side of him before he died.
Superb performance. He plays the big and sensitive guy very well. Also I understand it was close to his true persona in real life.
