kind of reminded me of that film, THE BOX (Cameron diaz + James Marsden)

for the same reason that people compare "repeaters" to "groundhog day": their own incredible amount of stupidity.

The basic premise is kind of the same, since you're chosen to participate in a game where a box shows up on your doorstep with the threat of someone dying.

The difference is that with Chosen, you have no choice. "The Box" and "Button, Button" are about greed, and whether you're willing to put your monetary gain over someone else's life. It's a simple action by you that will give you something you want, but has deadly consequences for someone else. Chosen takes that premise to its extremes where you have no choice, have to do the killing yourself, and the thing you want is the safety of your loved ones.
