Could you do this job?

I could never handle it, what about you?

reply

Nope, not in a hundred years. I am not cut out for the kind of weather conditions these guys work in.

The other thing I find a huge deterrent are the customers. The truck drivers seem to disregard the appropriate measures that need to be taken in certain weather conditions, then argue/refuse help from tow trucks because they don't want to pay for it. Then, when they ultimately have no choice but to be towed, they argue over the cost or don't pay at all. I recall an episode where Jamie was continuously calling some company (he had their truck in his yard after towing it) and the company was refusing to pay. No way would I be willing to deal with that kind of crap on a daily basis.

I can't imagine going through all that and also having to worry about getting squished by trucks while you're at an accident scene on the side of a road covered with black ice.

The amount of stamina these guys have is amazing. Especially considering none of them are what look like peak physical specimens. Just the simple weight of the cables and chains, and all the jockeying around to get stuff rigged up...they definitely have my respect!

reply

Yes I could do it because I used to do that for a living. Very brutal way to make a living that's for sure! You always have to be extremely careful doing heavy recovery/towing because in a split second, your life can change. I know, because I had 1 ton (2000lbs) drop on my right leg and now, I can't do this type of work anymore.

NOPE !!

Nope but I love watching it. I love snow but working outside in it, NO!!!

I will keep my warm cozy inside computer job, curled up on my sofa watching them do it.
I am totally amazed at what they do and the conditions they do it in but no way I would survive it.

I think I could learn the technical aspect of it, working the trucks, the physics, and what not. But the hours and climate would probably break me. I have a lot of respect for what these guys are doing and the endurance and professionalism with which they do it.

Maybe when I was younger but not now.
