Nigel Barker is an awful host...

I'm a latecomer to this show, but after watching a few episodes I have to say I'm shocked by Nigel's hosting. He shows no personality or charisma whatsoever. It's like listening to one of those online text-to-speech generators. He could at least try to inject some life into the script he's reading from. Absolutely abysmal...

Don't know what show you're watching 'cos I think he's a great host. Lot of presence, command, great time and crisis management skills. He is very dignified on this show. And he doesn't come across as a cold douche either.

Even I finished watching The Face recently and I was very impressed by Nigel's no-b.s style of hosting. He is not corny, phony or annoying like most hosts on reality TV shows. I am glad he doesn't pull juvenile antics/humor like Ryan Seacrest, Cat Deeley, Mario Lopez and the like.

I hope Nigel continues hosting The Face as long as it airs. He adds much needed seriousness and credibility to the show, and that's not something everyone can pull off.

While I do agree with some points you made, such as bringing seriousness and credibility, I don't think he brings any personality to his role as host. It is possible to have both the humor and credibility. I was hoping for a host similar to Tim Gunn (Project Runway) - a well-respected industry expert, but with enough humor and personality to inject some life into the show.

Perhaps I was being too harsh on Nigel, I mean there's always time to improve I guess. I was just a little disappointed.

I agree, he's an awful presenter. His lines always end up being over dubbed and I have no idea what the reason is, surely he doesn't mess up his lines that often? I've never noticed any other presenter have to dub their lines so often and sometimes it even changes over mid sentence. He did it on Americas next top model and now he's doing it on the face.. Not a great presenter by any stretch of the imagination!

I HATE THE DUBBING!

He's not messing up his lines, they just do it because they decide later to add more stuff for the people at home watching. So the stuff we hear, he never says to the contestants. It's also not really dubbing, just added dialogue, which is why when we hear his "dubbing" they never show him; they always cut to shots of the contestants.

I noticed that on Top Model, Tyra did it a lot before the elimination when she was announcing the prizes, they were, what they call "added in post." I'm assuming they did this because the show didn't know for sure what prizes they would get secured during filming, so they made her record all those lines later when they knew for sure what the winner would be getting.

Dubbing on TV actual scripted TV shows bug the hell out of me because you can tell when the audio goes from live from the set to being recorded in a studio. Some shows do it so much and it annoys me to hell!

What I also noticed on The Face is that it looks a lot like the coaches are acting when they're doing their confessionals. It's like the producers are telling them, "Pretend you're shocked or mad at Naomi for [insert any scenario here]."

P.S. Am I the only one who thinks the main prize on The Face is lame?

I've never even heard of this show until today. Is this similar to America's Next Top Model?

Something else I'm curious about. If he's on this show, is he no longer part of ANTM? I haven't watched that show in several years, so I am no longer familiar with who's still there and who isn't.

I love Nigel and since he left America's Next Top Model it sux.

I am So glad that other people notice this "dubbing" because I noticed it all the damn time on Antm as well, and now on the Face. And yes' it really is obvious that the change is pitch is different. I wonder how many "behind the head shots" they take just in case they have to add some other dialogue in. One thing I have noticed as well about the "voice over dubbing" is that the dialogue that they add seems to be, along with making an idea more specific, about also making things sound more...presentable. I wonder sometimes how something actually came out that they had to change that probably wasn't very kosher..especially on antm, and especially with tyra. Because I think that most of us know how off the head tyra can be. And as a last point, not that I give a true damn whatsoever, but I wonder if it is a slap in the face to tyra for Nigel to be working with her "nemesis" Naomi. If it was intentional, what sweet sweet medicine vengeance. ;)

I so disagree. I love Nigel and think he helps make the show. Without him it would be too drab.
