Am I the only one who didn't like it?

So first off, It's well done. It looks great, I love the animation, and the score.

However, the story bugged me. All the planes he threw decided to come alive and follow him around until he got the girl. Why?

He gave up. He quit. He didn't overcome any weakness or defeat any antagonist, he just lucked into getting the girl.

Call me old fashion, but I don't wan't to watch a film about a quitter getting what he wanted.

I'm all for changing up story structure, I think it's great that Disney let the filmmakers do it, but once again, it's a film about someone giving up, and succeeding anyways. I can not dig it, and I am a bit bothered and concerned that I seem to be alone in this.

Am I alone? Am I missing something? What do you think?

you are alone.

Yeah I thought it was extreme a little bit. They met for ten seconds on a subway, then he tries for the next two hours to get her attention until giving up, then the letters THEMSELVES take over and bring them together... to get some coffee?

I thought this was mediocre Oscar bait.

You think everything is crap

I agree with you. I was so rooting for him up until the paper airplanes came to life. It would have been great and a lot more satisfying if he had overcome huge obstacles by actively pursuing his goal (the girl) instead of the paper airplanes magically doing all the work. Still, it's very charming and I enjoyed it. 7/10

You're not alone, the animation started out alright, a lot of thought went into every frame and action, but it lost me when the planes woke up and started pushing the guy. Didn't get why they had to resort to it, to push the story further. The new animation technic was pretty nice, but the animation itself was average, almost feel like they tried to get attention, more than telling the story. No higher than 6/10.

I didn't like it too and don't know why it got the Oscar. The Longest Daycare was clearly superior and even Fresh Guacamole was much more creative.
