what does the title mean?

anyone can explain?

reply

"The title was a misreading of an old American folk song; Lowery felt that it captured the right "classical, regional" feel, he said at the Saturday premiere press conference."

This is the best I could get after searching everywhere for anything on the movie title...If you want to see it in context it's on this page....

Thanks. I'm still none too crazy about the title and not even sure Lowery did much to explain it.

I was actually at the world premiere at sundance back in january and the director answered that exact question, His answer was that Ain't them bodies saints is an old wooden ship. Bam!

How does the wooden ship referred to fit into this?

reply

I'm probably wrong, but I think of it as like: "Ain't them bodies saints?". So, someone asking if the bodies belong to saints.

Hell if I know though.

reply

That's what I thought. I said it in my mind about a half dozen times trying to figure out which way made the most sense.

terrible title for a film.. to the extent that i would be embarrassed to say the words to the box office ticket seller. this movie gets a 6.5 in my book. excellent performances: rooney (as always), a subtle and serious keith carradine, and casey affleck - far superior to anything his brother has ever done.

the movie is well shot and directed, but lowery seemingly tries to inject extra ambiguity into certain elements. not that i have anything against ambiguity - but in this case we're left feeling that we may have missed something. especially considering the occasional mumbled line delivery.

reply

Is it bridge or train? I don't get it.

reply

Think of it in proper English first -- "Aren't those bodies saints?"

reply

Ah. Thanks.

The title makes me cringe when I see it, but it does stand out and provoke interest. I'm not one to shy away from a movie just because of the title. From the weird story of the origin, it reminds me of the titling of "The Catcher in the Rye".

Man I actually LOVE the title. Its sounds so poetic.
