Remake?

In 2009 I believe it was, Andre Techine directed a film with this title. Is this connected in any other way?

This seems similar to the 1951 Hitchcock movie "Strangers on a Train". Any
comments from anyone who's seen both?

I'd say that this movie is indebted in some way to Strangers on a Train. It's pretty clear that the discussion in this movie about "meeting someone on a train and talking about committing a murder" is in some degree a homage to Strangers on a Train. Very different movies though--for one thing there is no suggestion of "swapping" murders as a way to ocmmit murder without much risk of getting caught.

There is a movie coming out this fall also titled "The Girl on the Train". It is listed here on IMDB. It has no connection to this movie in any way.

The movie you refer to, with the same title, is listed here on IMDB also (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1183672/?ref_=nm_flmg_wr_4). And it too has a completely different plot than either the 2013 or the 2016 movies.

Movies (as well as books, songs, etc.) can have the same titles without having any relation to each other.

It's easy to think "Strangers on a Train" is the primary inspiration for this--and there are things that draw us to that.

But to me it was really just "Body Heat" and "Double Indemnity" rolled into one--the primary driving force being a stupid sap of a guy who should know better but was thinking with the wrong...you know.

Problem with SOAT is that it's missing the "other half" of the equation on the murder.

So I'd vote BH and DI.

Though I'd not waste my time on this film again--I'd just watch BH and DI again if I want that story done well.
