What's the deal with the lawyer friend.

Was he divorced? Did they ever mention anything about his childrens mom? He seemed to be doing all the mother duties throughout the movie. Also why did he get so fat. He was skinny in Moneyball.

He bulked up to play Star Lord in this summer's Marvel film 'Guardians Of The Galaxy'.

I thought he did mention her when he was playing with the kids and on the skipping rope.
