How did the disabled kid get in touch with the lawyer?

I haven't finis watching yet, but when he meets his developmentally disabled son, it seems like the kid is pretty severely disabled and non verbal. But all the profiles he was given were from people who were seeking their real father. But Vince seems to have no questions about how or why his son was interested in finding the identity of his real father, how he'd begun the legal process to have his identity revealed etc? Is this explained at some point?

Perhaps the mother filed the lawsuit hoping to recover the expenses of caring for their child.

Noooo, that couldn't be possible! If you take donated sperm, there's no way you could make a claim against the donor if the child happened to have a genetic defect. That would be ridiculously unfair on the donor! I think this was a bit of a plot hole. I expect only the children of the donor could even possibly expect to find out his identity, as they never signed anything themselves to agree to never finding out. The mothers took the sperm and signed the deal knowing that the donor's identity would be a secret, so they wouldn't later have a leg to stand on if they wanted his identity.

It's possible that he has some kind of disease that progressed to that point. Maybe he could communicate before the settlement.

That would make sense.

The son (Ryan) wasn't mentally disabled, I believe he has M.S. so maybe he has a primary caregiver or a proxy. Or his biological mother had a guardian at litem for him. Someone that makes medical decisions, but the other siblings know of Ryan but hadn't visited him when Vince's character went following one of the kids at the hotel conference but when Viggo found him and realized who he was, remember?

All I'm guessing is that he has someone looking after his medical interest while he's in that institution so they probably know about Starbuck donor and pt him on that class action lawsuit

Maybe someone from the hospital filled for him? It seems like the kid doesn't have anyone to look for him, maybe he got orphaned recently or was abandoned in the institution? I know the donor never asked for the responsibility, but if you had a patient in that situation and end up knowing he could have a living relative, wouldn't you at least try to reach the person even if just for the kid to have someone see him every once in a while?
