Starbuck was good, but it was quite French Canadian, and the humor isn't quite the same. From what I've seen of the trailer, the US version has a different feel. I'll definitely watch Delivery Man, too.

I watched the trailer for Delivery Man pretty much directly after watching Starbuck, and they seem pretty much exactly the same, as far as the script goes. Seems sort of like what the director of Funny Games did when he remade it in English. Whether the delivery will be as good is up for debate.

Original movie Starbuck was very good what with the " Quite French " so what lol
The concept was from Quebec originally We always got the best ideas first ahaha

I will watch delivery men for sure, usa as also is way to bring humor.
Starbuck was very touching

I just watched the original and it was beautiful and amusing. It suited my Aussie dry sense of humour perfectly.

I think it will be nice to see Vince do something with some serious issues in it but I wonder whether the US version will be as...whole.

Loved the original. But I will go see this too.

I've never been to Australia, but have known quite a few Australians, and, generally speaking, wouldn't consider their senses of humor as being very dry at all. Which has always puzzled me, because on a dryness scale I would have expected to find England > Australia > USA, instead of the England > USA > Australia that I've observed.

This isn't intended to be at all insulting, since I think that a "funny contributions to the English language per capita scale" would look like this: Australia > England > USA.

I saw Starbuck three days ago and absolutely loved it! I hadn't laughed so hard watching a movie in a very long time... of course I also cried because it is a very heart warming drama.
I'm scared Hollywood will mess it up, as it usually happens with their remakes. But hopefully this will bring the original the spotlight it truly deserves.

Having just watched this trailer, I kind of feel sick. Only good thing that comes of this rubbish is people will watch the original movie (Starbuck) as mentioned above.

I loved Starbuck.

Liked Starbuck....wont watch this one (Delivery Man) although i like how Vince acts but this is an exact replica of Starbuck. Americans should try and come up with original movies and not copy scene by scene other country's movies. Thumbs down Hollywood !!!

It's the same director/screenwriter of the original Starbuck. If he wants to remake it and appeal to a bigger audience, the more power to him. It's not like anyone's ripping off someone else's work. What I don't understand is why they needed to do a French remake of the film.

reply

I wouldn't go as far as saying the French "needed" a remake, but to some extent the French are a bit like Americans : there is some humor they don't get, and some accent. Some French people are put off by the French Canadian accent, or simply fear they won't understand enough to get the movie (and I guess subtitles have their limit in any market). Then again, I recently read somewhere it was more the producers / distributors who were the culprit, rather than the public. They fear French Canadian films won't appeal to enough people in France to be profitable.

Why should I have to learn French just to watch this movie? The majority of people from Quebec speak English as well as French. You can watch movies in French and English. The premise was cute. Delivery Man was cute. Don't take a crap on it just because you're French and have your nose in the air like a snob. You'll miss good things being a twat.

You don't have to learn French just to watch the film. Have you never heard of subtitles?

To each their own. I found the second part of the movie to be really stupid. It was a cool idea though. Hope this one is less... cheesy?

reply

I just got back from a screening of Delivery Man and it was good. I do not really like Vince Vaughn but I really enjoyed this. The entire premise is far fetched but the result is pretty much understandable.

I think it was well done overall.

But I will look up the original.

It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be NICE.

I just saw this also. Movie is exactly the same as Starbuck. EXACTLY. They followed storyline almost exactly. They did switch the soccer in Starbuck, with basketball. The main differences was the actors and language. It was amazing how closely they followed original, I know it was same director but it was pretty much a copycat. I enjoyed it, still found it heartwarming and humorous.
