Wow, such a harsh ending!

Now this family has to live with the fact that their son is somewhere in space being experimented on by aliens....That's just wonderful lol.
I enjoyed the film though. Creepy and quite unsettling.

I actually liked the ending, not meaning I wanted something terrible to happen to one of them but I like how they made it clear these things do not have happy endings all the time and it made it more realistic to me....I also loved how they had that older guy in the movie that collects newspaper clippings....if the movie started with those two talking to him I would think they're kinda losing it....but after seeing what they went through I felt even more terrible for them because who would believe them except those who went through it.

I liked the ending too lol. I was just saying......Was bleak, man.

reply

Hmmm I'm not so sure I'd use the word bleak, I do agree that it wasn't strong and left a lot of loose ends....but what I did like about it was it left a lot of questions...but the one bleak thing that ticked me off is feeling that these questions probably won't get answered. I doubt they'd make a sequel but I'd like one exploring if the they'd ever get Jesse back and if the Government maybe got a handle on this kind of thing stopping, but I think they ended it the way they did because they showed there is hope for Jesse to be returned and that maybe they had a way to contact him periodically....I think one reason I didn't mind the ending is because I was really scared it was going to end with Daniel killing Lacy and then blowing his head off....I thought that was so stupid, then was happy to see it wasn't real lol. But I definitely see how its a bit bleak....I doubt there will be a sequel but would like one

I was crossing my fingers that they would stick together and fight off the grays...damn! But I'm with you, I would really like a sequel about getting Jesse back, it's like they totally set it up for one with all the things you mentioned. But I agree it is unlikely..this one wasn't even in theaters was it?

reply

If you're talking about this movie, I'm pretty sure I remember the theater previews for it.

Didn't knowing for sure that Jesse was still alive, suffering who knows what without them being able to do anything to stop it, would make it worse, though?

They don't even get closing.

reply

Well that's true but maybe they wanted to leave it open to have them still experiencing issues with the Grays and trying to contact them to get Jesse back. He's still alive so as long as they can find a way to communicate then they can try. They all still have implants so I'm sure they're still keeping tabs on them.

reply

yeah, me too -- they avoided a sappy happy ending. stayed committed to the premise.

reply

at least they were nice enough to let him keep his walkie talkie. most aliens would prob confiscate that.

reply

They probably let him have it just for the joy of further tormenting his family. Because they hear the pain and fear. He's been tortured for months and they have not a hope of helping him. I think I'd rather hear my kid died outright than go through that if there was no hope of saving him. And we don't know that was necessarily Jesse at the end. I'm sure the aliens have recording and mimicry capabilities.
