Jesse's pictures at the end (spoilers)

I sort of broke down at the end when the aliens expert places Jesse's picture in his wall. And then when the mom looks at pictures from younger him.

imho, whatever else you might say about the movie's quality, Jesse's character was developed enough for us to care about him. I was shocked when he got taken.

plus, the kid looks like my son, so...

I'm so happy, 'cause today I found my friends. they're in my head...

I thought the film was decent. But I was disappointed by the the ending. The kid in peril thing is so cliche. It should have been both or one of the parents that were taken.

When she was looking at his drawings tho, didn't you think .. 'why didn't she think they were weird at the time that he drew them?' I can understand that as nothing was happening from her perspective that maybe she didn't question them, but come on, I'd put my child in therapy if he was drawing that kind of stuff.

Eh, kids at that age can have strange imaginations.

For instance, my wife and i have discussed an issue my daughter is having.

She's 5 now, but it seems like for the past 3 years she has an imaginary friend she calls "OLD GRANDMA". At first i thought she meant my mom, or my mother-in-law, but no she is quite clear that Old Grandma is a different person.

We'll be driving along, and all of the sudden my daughter will chime in with a thought or opinion on a topic that, quite honestly, i am usually stunned she knows ANYTHING about, and i'll ask her "where did you hear about that?" and she'll say "Old Grandma told me".

I have to admit it gets creepy sometimes, and on more then one occasion i have wondered if maybe she is seeing a ghost or something, but then one day i asked her "so where does old grandma live?" and she rattled off some story about living in a land of candy where you eat candy for breakfast and lunch, but then you have a healthy dinner, and there are dogs that talk and ..etc. It was obvious she just had a crazy imagination and was just pulling stuff out of her ass at that point.

Kids just come up with bizarre, random crap sometimes. I can understand the parents ignoring those pictures.

Your daughter is definitely being visited by a ghost. She probably just didn't want you to know where "Old Grandma" lives.

Thats actually funny

There is a very famous old Japanese horror film where the director created scenes from his daughters random freaky ideas

...or Old Grandma is real but she didn't have an answer to that particular question and made something up. Kids often just don't want to not know, or to say "I don't know," (until they're older, LOL) and will make something up. Ask her sometime how bees make honey or how to make bread or something (assuming its not likely she knows yet) and see if she comes up with something.

Fun story: one of my sisters, when she was small, was pretty sure she knew how to make honey. She came up with an elaborate recipe and put ingredients in a pan and left it on a heat vent overnight. In the morning, it was honey. Cut to years later in high school, she corrected a teacher who was teaching about bees... Our awesome mom got a good earful when my sister came home from school that day.

Your daughter is thinking of the story of Hansel and Gretel. The two kids visit "Grandma" whose house is made of candy. It has been made into many children's books and TV Cartoons many times over the years. She saw it, but can't explain it.

You're welcome. :)

I read one of those compilation articles that was like "10 creepiest things children have ever said." This is the kind of stuff that makes me afraid to have kids. If I ever hear some freaky *beep* s/he is going to a therapist asap. I've read that kinds, especially only children, have imaginary friends and that's normal, but still, i ain't taking any chances 😓

What is so weird about kids being fascinated by aliens? I loved sci-fi movies when I was a kid and probably had my own alien drawings. Just look at all the comic books for kids that are centered around aliens.YAAAAAY! Now you go, lady!

I also wondered why it was as if she was seeing those drawings for the first time. (Didn't she just pack them in that box to move?) But yeah, they were creepy. It was more than just a picture of aliens... it was aliens standing around and watching a sleeping child. How was she so blind?
