I personally know matt. And all I can tell you is, he hasn't really been amish for several years. I've known him for over a year now.

Well. When I saw matt he wasn't married that I knew of. So....

Matt did say that he hasn't been living Amish, so it doesn't surprise me that he is clean shaven. The show confuses the issue by making all of the cast members wear Amish clothing, even after they've admitted to living English. (They weren't so honest about that in the first season, but I noticed this season they showed pictures of some of the cast members wearing English clothes when they were introduced. I guess they learned their lesson, after leaked pictures of Abe and Rebecca were all over the Internet.) I think Vonda was the only one who was still dressing Amish in real life when we met them.

He's married to a mennonite, and maybe that's the rule in their culture. He is also not living amish before/during the show, so he probably hasn't joined the church.
