Principals acting?

The support cast shows some acceptable acting but the three leads (woman)are appallingly bad, especially Antonia Prebble. Excruciating to watch. Hopelessly miscast. She can't carry a lead role.

Sad to say I have to agree with you. After the terrible dsappointment of Top of the Lake I was really hoping this film would make up for it, but unfortunately it didn't.

It's so hard to say what you think without hurting the feelings of people who probably tried their best, but the truth is White Lies is rather awful in every respect, although as usual for a Kiwi film it looks very beautiful. If only we could say just for once that the cinematography wasn't the ONLY good thing about a Kiwi film or television programme!

I disagree. Assuming Antonia's character was supposed to be a worried, stuck-up rich woman, I thought she played it quite well. As for not being able to carry a lead role - did you see her in Outrageous Fortune or The Blue Rose? She was excellent.

Bad acting is one of the worst things about New Zealand films. We don't seem to have anyone who really knows how to act for the screen.

i definitely agree. there are a handful of good actors/actresses that come from nz (temuera morrison, rena owen etc.) but the majority of them are fcucking horrible.

just look at the nz show, shortland street. that programme has some of the worst acting i've ever seen e.g. the actor that plays t.k. samuels.
