'Jonas family compound'?

Does this have a certain meaning to it, or is it just a cutesy name they call it?

couldnt they just say the Jonas' house?

they've said that for a while and I thought that was odd too. I guess it's just a name they call it.

I first heard the term referring to the Kennedy compound, and I wonder if that's where the Jonases picked it up. I had a good friend in the 70's who mentioned that she loved her time living in the west, but it's "starvation country." She mentioned that lots of extended families live pretty close for that reason--and others, as in they enjoy spending time together ;)--but she didn't talk about compounds or anything like that! Interesting point, OP!

I think it's a pretentious Kennedy-wannabe name to call it, rather than cutesy.

What's your point? That describes a huge amount of private properties and those people don't all refer to their homes as a compound. The Kennedy thing is well known. It's used in gags in tv etc.
