The perception of undeserved success only makes people dislike her more

I gather that a lot of Whitney's humor is built on the premise that she's "a mess", but she's young, attractive and a seemingly endless number of tv projects, so how much of "a mess" can she be ?

Exactly.

None of those things can prevent a person from having the most effed up personal life. It is practically a cliche in hollywood that anyone with those three attributes is living a rough home life, booze, drugs, promiscuity, neurosis -- all the pressure that comes from "success" finds an outlet in one or more self-destructive behaviors.

Maybe, but with Whitney, she just comes off as hacky, contrived and mediocre.

I think if Whitney had a little more booze, drugs, promiscuity and neuroses in her life, she at least might be more interesting if not funnier.
