Absolutely Brilliant
I havent talked about movies on this forum, not for a while at least, but this movie prompts me to write a few lines about it. Quite simply put D Day is hands down one of the best Hindi movies to have come out of Bollywood for a very long time, at least for me. Its not a movie as much an experience that tightly draws you and often taunts you as a viewer to be part of the tense, unpredictable and often always tight roped life of a spy. Unlike other spy movies that focus more on the action and the spy gadgetry, Nikhil Advani has chosen, and quietly rightly, on the psyche and human aspect of spies. But of course there is action which is brilliantly restrained yet brutal and graphic. The gritty realism of this movie is outstanding. During the first half of the movie when the mission goes slightly awry, the desperation, hopelessness and the fear is so thick and so finely articulated that the viewer can virtually have been there. The editing is flawless and the narrative that carries forth the characters that carries forth the narrative and back again is so tightly woven that although the movie in its scripting is quite straightforward, you are left guessing at every turn. This is a movie that cant be talked about but needs to be seen to understand how good it is. The acting is top notch and you cant find faults in anyone. Be it the main leads Irrfan, Huma, Arjun, Rishi or the minor characters. The music is haunting and the lyrics is just magical. Each character embodies their traits so well that it mesmerizes you on screen. Irrfan with his patriotic yet uncertain flaws, Arjun with his muted emotions that just play out so well on his broken face, but I would give a special mention to Shrutti Haassan who has little presence on screen but whose moments on it will leave you absolutely haunted by her character.
Just four words....Dont miss this one
