Will there be a series three?

S2 seems to have ended with one of those ambiguous endings that can either be a semi-satisfying show-ender in itself, or a cliff-hanger for the next series. Don't writers do that sometimes when they don't know if they're getting picked up for another year?

I'd hope so as I've really enjoyed it. It's left fairly open at the end of S2 so I don't see why they couldn't.

reply

as I've just said in another topic, S2 ratings were surprisngly awful compared to S1, so I don't think there is a chance.
and honestly, considering where the story is right now, what things have already been done, I can't see how could they be able two write a season that would not feel tacked on. or unnecessary

A (Christmas) special would be great. A masterplan involving almost wiping out every human on the planet really makes you feel merry around a Christmas tree. That will be very "heartwarming". :)

But seriously, it would be nice if they got the chance to wrap things up. Many people watch series on dvd or through websites that provide streaming or other services. TV ratings don't mean everything anymore. But the executives still look at them too much...

On the other side, if it would stop with this ending, I would be ok with that. With the topic of Utopia, you can't expect "the bad guys" to just say, "oh, we were wrong, we didn't really mean it, wiping out the human race. We'll behave now and we'll all get along." They need to cover things up and take care of every possible leak or loose end as they did at the end.

That doesn't stop Channel 4 thankfullY. They seem to have a variety of crap for the popular masses and the critically well received shows that have modest to mediocre audiences going. The second series wasn't as phenomenal as the first but I expected that and it delivered with what I wanted so I'm happy except for the ending.

actually, based on IMDB, all S02 episodes rank over S01 episodes http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2384811/eprate?ref_=ttep_ql_3

He's talking about tv ratings, which were bad.
And you may notice that an average of only half the users came back to vote for the 2nd season episodes here...so it doesn't mean much if they're rated higher.

reply

Nah, the show has lost its authenticity. Probably the core topic is too touchy, thus the show suffered severe screening and network interference. Still a genuine one-of-a-kind show, will re-watch S01 now and then.

reply

I don't know. While it's not as good as the first series it touched on big topics in a way most other shows wouldn't. Someone willing to destroy all but one race being a key example.

I hope not, whilst I thought that s1 felt believable, and the first few eps of s2 were great, tying in to a bunch of current affairs in the world in a really cool way, I felt towards the end it kind of went a bit camp, way over the top, kinda like the first batman vs the 4th, but not as extreme of course.

The last episode of season 2 was very anticlimactic compared to season 1 or even just the other episodes of season 2. I wish they would have just ended the series with season 2 b/c the writing would have been a lot stronger had they known. Seeing dugdale brought back into it in the last episode...it was like oh god not this again! It's been done to death just in the history of the 12 episodes. It would have been great do see dugdale relocate. Also with Carvel, I felt he really didn't answer for much. I guess it's all swept under the tidy rug of he was in a nazi concentration camp as a child. I felt that was poor character development. I actually felt it would have been stronger if it was just the arrogance of science gone awry vs. just that he's a product of his childhood.

Damn. But there's one ray of hope in that story...

Kelly had plans for subsequent series of the programme, which concluded its second run this summer.

Despite its demise on Channel 4, a remake for the US market is being made by cable channel HBO.

It is being written by Gillian Flynn, author of thriller Gone Girl, and will be directed by David Fincher, whose credits include The Social Network and the big screen adaptation of Flynn's novel.

If (big IF) the show gets enough viewers on U.S. TV and is renewed, perhaps he could be brought onto the show and advance the story in that iteration.

I am American, and I love you definition of CBS. AS for the show Utopia, too bad there is not going to be a third season.

reply

Hey remember The Killing, it was cancelled like 3 times and still could make it till season four. Let's hope that NETFLIX do a third installment, it's logical if you consider that it's an incredible mind-blowing show with 8.6 IMDb ratings, it can't be the end.

reply

I too hope Netflicks will make a Series 3.

What really bothers me mate, is how many of your fellow Americans watch probably watch that channel!! And, I presume Trump owns it and watches it religiously. I can see him now in his armchair watching House of Cards and constantly saying, "you're fired!" I am still not sure whether Spacey's character could teach Mr Trump a thing or two or whether, Spacey can actually get some hot tips from your incoming man, with his finger on the trigger? I am sure he's going to ask Putin to come and check it out next year, over Ukrainian cider and Cuban cigars.

I still would love to sack the entire management of Fox for all the great shows they have killed too quickly and dross they have saved (and maybe hope to sell to CBS!!!)

I am planning to get this series and binge watch it after seeing some trailers.

To the person who mentioned shows like State of Play, you Sir, have great taste...

Best wishes to all and as an Aussie, I love both British and American shows.
I watch British for their brilliance and storytelling and the American shows to be entertained. Although shows like The West Wing, House of Cards, Narcos etc still linger in the mind...

It's only when I see actors being paid a half a million dollars + per episode to make The Big Bang Theory, that my mind returns to earth with a blazing thud (no air bags to save me) and I recall that for every brilliant American show (and I include the many which are actually filmed in Canada) there are another 30 which save me a fortune in laxatives.

Australian TV is no better and tiny in comparison, with the odd classic like Glitch, Wildside, Mother and Son etc...

However, the good news for both Aussies and the British is that you guys provide our actors with so much work that we probably have more actors playing Americans than we have actors in Australia playing Australians!!!

Perhaps, Trump will build a wall across the Pacific to keep us out!!!
