What a blatant and disgusting ripoff of the Jonestown Massacre

This tacky movie is an insult to the survivors and the families of the deceased in Jonestown. It is exactly the same thing as taking the events of 9/11 and filming it as a ten story building hit by a private jet and 200 people died, yet using the exact same elements and events of the original 9/11.

Eli Roth and the rest of the producers and Ti West should be ashamed for this piece of sh!te they made.

That's what happens when when you see a movie that's a mockumentary. There have been movies based on 9/11. Ever hear of "Flight 31"? The only difference was that it was a dramatic replay of that flight and not a mockumentary like sacrament. The theme, though not earth shattering, was more important to convey. It's no more distasteful than most productions of this kind.

My feelings exactly!

I don't think it was so much a ripoff and a rehash, and not a very inspired one at that. Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it. This film appears to be directed to those unaware of the past.

6/10 stars from me based on moderate intrigue in the first third of the film and Gene Jones' strong performance.

You can't "rip off" a real-life event. It isn't intellectual property.

Ever see the movie Titanic? Filmmakers have been taking real life and putting them on film for years. You think this is a Jonestown thing. Try watching The Veil because that is more true to life then this. What about King & his books? Where you think he gets ideas from or Criminal Minds or hey even Wes Craven said in an interview how he came up with the story of Freddy was by seeing a newspaper article where a kid died by his dreams. Every movie, song, tv show, book has real life stuff in one format or another in them. If you're gonna put them down for this movie you need to remember them all.

Somebody needs to take the panties off and put on their big boy shorts.

I agree w/you. I just finished watching this movie w/my sister, and we were not aware it was a blatant ripoff of Jonestown. I just read the description and thought it might be worth a watch. I honestly thought there would be a sacrificial element to the movie. If I had known it was just a retelling of Jonestown w/some found footage, I wouldn't have watched it. I've seem many great documentaries about the Jonestown massacre and tragedy. This movie did not do those people justice.

I knew beforehand that this was based on Jonestown. So what? Why are people getting bent out of shape that it's based on real events? It could have been due to copyright issues that they couldn't use the Jonestown monicker.
