Dog fight scene

I watched the movie right up until the dog fight scene. I won't watch the rest of the movie. If Nicholas Cage were standing here right now, I'd punish him for even being in a movie with that scene.

reply

I guess you don't understand much about movies and this one in particular.

reply

I guess you're a little slow on the uptake. The picture of Joe's mental state was painted without out it. It was unnecessary and did nothing but give Michael Vick and those like him a some jerk off material.

reply

I bet you're okay with people being murdered in movies. But a dog killing another dog OFF SCREEN, that's crossing the line.

reply

No kidding, huh?

While the dog scene surprised me, I'm smart enough to realize that it is a MOVIE, and that no animal was ACTUALLY abused here.

reply

If you reduce something to the bare narrative...all you have is a script. This excess you're talking about is what movies are made of. Also, I agree with the other guy. You went to a movie that was obviously violent in nature and then act as though the dog violence is different even though it was depicted less vividly.

reply

What a wuss..

Do you really think they'd film a REAL dog fight? Ugh.. what are you doing watching movies? You must believe all the blood in them is real.

If you watch the scene, you'll see the dogs fooling around, with "angry dog" sounds playing over it. It's dark enough you couldn't really tell what was going on -- but you wouldn't know, because you'd probably lock yourself in the bathroom and cry.

Well its a valid statement since you were behaving as if it were real.

johnteletubbie, my boy, there are only two words I have for mentally deficient lumps like you: Post-natal abortion. Go ahead, ask for one of those at your next psych-evaluation.

In the meantime, try to stay away from movies, newspapers, scissors, people, oxygen, movies, people (I can't stress this one enough), microwaves, dogs, in fact, just dig yourself a hole and live in it. You'll be save from everything evil, make-believe or real.

On a side note: You just made my "most retarded/useless/pretentious comment of the week" list.

[deleted]

You really haven't defended your position at all.

reply

Exactly, explain yourself. Because no one is going to agree with you like this. If you can't watch a movie because it has an off-screen dogfight in it, I'm pretty sure you're not the audience they made the movie for anyway...

reply

You're pathetic. And stop calling people tools, when you are the only real one on here.

reply

You ought to take your own advice

reply

I agree, although your point would have more emphasis if you expressed yourself by jumping off a bridge...you could leave a nice long note.

reply

My boyfriend thinks that Joe brought his dog, who was a female, over to mate with the other dog. I think he's wrong but if looking at it that way helps you finish the movie, then whatever floats your boat.

reply

So someone objects to animal cruelty and gets flamed for it?

Newsflash: Most people don't care for animal abuse in movies.

In the original cut of "In the Line of Fire", a would be presidential assassin killed two women and then proceeded to kill their dog. You know what the test audience objected to? You guessed it, the killing of the dog. So the scene was changed accordingly.

The dog fight obviously upset the thread starter, and serves as a nice warning to others that would find that sort of thing a deal breaker when selecting a movie to watch.

Personally, I found it to be the only original or surprising thing in the entire movie.

reply

Dang! This has to be the most over reactive flaming of the year. Some people get upset over dogs. It's a sensitive subject. Relax, People, relax.

reply

"So someone objects to animal cruelty and gets flamed for it? "

That actually isn't what happened at all. Someone object to fictional animal cruelty in a film with all manner of cruelty. To single the dog out is not only inconsistent, it ignores the fact that Joe is a film about sick people who do sick things. To criticize the film for including a sick character doing something sick is just ridiculous especially given the fact that the dog killing happened off screen.

Gah, no, Joe used to be a dogfighter and he used to have his dog fight other dogs for money... That's how he knew that his dog was gonna win that fight easily and wasn't even fussed about sticking around seeing it but went up for a BJ instead

When they go looking for the dog after the fight, Gary and Joe and they find him; Gary says: "She's got alot of scars" (from previous fights, I don't think the dog we saw stood a chance to even get a bite in and there were no fresh wounds on her, the scars were old)

And Joe responds with a smile: "She does... But ALL THE OTHER ONES are dead"

Ok so let's get this straight. I saw two children abused and an elderly man bludgeoned to death over a bottle of cheap wine and you are bent out of shape over two dogs fighting? Read that out loud and then try and justify your stance. Weird.

reply

I know, and actually, that was a powerful and entirely consequential scene. The dog even has a character arc, which is awesome!

The use of dogs in the this film is entirely thematic. So OP is an idiot. This happens with ANY kind of violence towards animals in movies. People can watch other people get killed in the most creative and violent ways and not blink an eye. But as soon as an animal is killed people take to the internet to declare how offended they are and how sick the filmmakers are. It's hilarious.

reply

I watched past that scene, but I can see how that could upset someone. It was pretty clear that his pit killed the other dog and that made me think much less of Joe, since it was so gratuitous of him.

reply

[deleted]

I was upset by that scene, but I still watched the rest of it.

I just can't believe that people would resort to that type of violence.

reply

The dog fight scene was a little disturbing but I was glad they didn't film long shots of the dogs going at it and you barely got to see anything

There is a by far worse scene in the end where G Daawg pimps out his daughter for 30 dollars so he could buy booze

FIVE HUNDRED DOLLARS!!!
