MASSIVE SPOILER: Not happy with how the ending went.

FULL SPOILER FOR ENDING INCOMING!

As many have predicted Bond dies at the end of the movie. Infected by Safin and then dies in a massive explosion. First of all, let me be clear that if done well I wouldn’t completely be against Craig’s Bond dying. But the way he died and the whole nonsensical element to the finale didn’t help.

Also, to then plaster “James Bond will return” up in the credits straight after felt wrong. Takes away from the death of Craig’s Bond and kinda nudges people towards the “James Bond is a codename” theories (theories which don’t hold up upon close inspection).

So the rumours are true…. They’ve finally killed off the toxic, white male chauvinist pig that is James Bond and will replace him with Jane Bond in the next film.

I hate this world

reply

Lol. I don’t know about that (they treat the character of Bond with respect), but I do agree that Bond should remain male. Period.

Thematically I get what they were going for, but the execution of his death was poorly done, IMO. Also, just the thought of ending a Bond movie where he dies sounds depressing and it is. They do pay tribute to him at the end (people at MI6 make a toast, Madeleine begins to tell hers and James’ daughter about her father, etc), but it still ends on a downer. They even play “We have all the time in the world” just to add to the depression. Lol.

LOL so they stole the endings from Uncharted 4 and The Last of Us 2? (Although to be fair, at least Drake wasn't unceremoniously killed off in Uncharted 4, but it was made quite clear that his lineage was going to be replaced with a stronk wahmen in his fugly looking daughter)

That literally confirms the next James Bond will most definitely be a woman... a stronk powafa wahmen who don't need no man. Oh and she's a lesbian, too. Because obviously, strong empowered women can't be attracted to men. According to Netflix straight pride is "gross", so she's gotta be a rug burner.

reply

They've killed off the franchise as well.

reply

Well... the first movie (Dr. No) was released in 1962. Maybe they figured nearly 60 years of a franchise was long enough.

More like replacing him with Latifah Bond...

reply

They actually made him a toxic male (To his girlfriend and child anyway).

reply

Quite literally mate!

Or maybe it's some kind of meta nod to those that don't really view the Daniel Craig "Bond" films as a genuine representation of cinematic Bond.

Maybe they are telling us that the real James Bond will return and they will make the next film following on from Die Another Day in the mainline continuity...

The BBC's own website f!cked up with their report on the release. On their page it says "This reviews round-up is spoiler free." and then gives away the ending regarding Lashana Lynch's character.

reply

I just read the whole plot from someone who went to the premiere.

It sounds awful to be honest. The action scenes sound fantastic though, there’s a ‘one shot’ stairway fight towards the end of the movie that is apparently like something out of John Wick.

The plot though sounds absolute garbage. They need to get rid of Purvis and Wade already, surprised they didn’t after Spectre to be honest. No wonder Danny Boyle wanted to bring his own writer on board, it seems he just wanted to make a good Bond movie and not go for this ‘heartbreaking’ ending crap.

reply

I agree. It’s obvious Danny Boyle was against killing Bond

reply

Please tell me this post is a troll job

reply

Unfortunately not, no.

reply

That sounds really terrible, and this means they’ll have to reboot the franchise again and I am so sick of these freaking reboots

reply

Yeah it’s legit unfortunately, several people who went to the premiere have confirmed it.

Worst decision ever but I’d heard this was the reason why Danny Boyle walked. Apparently he clashed with Daniel Craig as Craig wanted Bond killed and Boyle didn’t.

Craig’s Bond has been through so much misery since losing Vesper, surely a happier ending would have been more fitting for this take on the character?

reply

And his character was such a cool guy in Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace. Sigh.

reply

Yep, such a waste, the man had his heart broken, he got whacked in the nuts by Le Chiffre, accidentally shot by a colleague, watched his Aston Martin get blown up and lost the closest thing he ever knew to a mother.

Now he’s going to die and never see his daughter grow up.

What an unexpected yet depressing end to this already very tragic character.

reply

This sounds really stupid and it just reinforces this moronic idea that we have to have a continuous storyline within the Bond films when they really should just be their own separate thing like it always was.

reply

Yep, it’s why Spectre is so annoying because the writers tried to tie all the previous Craig movies even though Skyfall felt very much a stand-alone Bond movie.

Plus what’s the point or having continuity between all the Craig films if in the end he just dies anyway? Nobody wants to see Bond die just like nobody wants to see Indiana Jones die. Audiences want good to triumph over evil, the hero gets the girl, the end.

reply

Well then. I'm not paying to watch this garbage.

reply

So does this basically mean they are now just going to reboot the franchise every time we get a new actor? So does this mean Bond 26 is going to be yet again another "Bond origin" movie? We've already seen that!

reply

Yep, I have zero interest in another origin story.

They’ve tried their hand at a Bond series with continuity and they’ve done a mediocre job at it and in doing so wasted one of the best Bond’s in Craig.

Just go back to standalone movies now, stop trying to be like the MCU.

reply

MCU is exactly the problem. I was joking years ago when I said Marvel broke Hollywood. But I think Marvel actually broke Hollywood.

reply

Every movie in the Craig era has just been riding the coattails of whatever was popular at the time:

- Casino Royale: Batman Begins
- Quantum Of Solace: The Bourne Identity
- Skyfall: The Dark Knight
- Spectre/No Time To Die: Marvel Cinematic Universe

reply

Anyone who has seen Casino Royale (1967) knows that anyone can be James Bond.

reply

There's no killing James Bond. He'll be back. The franchise will go on forever.

reply

True, but this version is dead. I guess in retrospect it makes sense. The Craig Bond’s have always felt like they were heading for an unexpected, big ending. The only film that feels like it could fit in with the rest of the previous 20 Bond films is Skyfall. That really stands out for me and remains Craig’s best Bond film (just slightly ahead of Casino Royale).

reply

James Bond still will be under copyright for several decades. If the company that holds the copyright has converged (aka gone Woke), it's very much dead. I'll become another more "diversity hires vs evil white males".
