I am still not convinced that she is going to take over the franchise, if anything she might be Bonds sidekick in this one and then after that she either becomes a recurring character, never appears again or the series is rebooted meaning she isn't a part of the continuity anymore.

reply

I don't think anyone believes she's taking over the franchise....

reply

Oh believe me I talked to people all last summer who were saying things like "it's time for a black woman to take over the franchise" or that she should take over the franchise because "black people have so fewer opportunities", or "James Bond will be black, get over it" blah blah blah. It was identity politics and reverse racism at its worst.

reply

It wasn’t “reverse” anything. It IS racism.

reply

Right of course its racism, just sometimes when it goes the other way people call it "reverse racism"

reply

>> I am still not convinced that she is going to take over the franchise

Wait, did you for even one millisecond believe that this was possible?

reply

10 years ago I would not have thought that was possible, in this day and age of insane political correctness nonsense I sadly do think it's possible.

reply

I hate to pull this line now, but... you must be joking.

It will never happen, no matter how much the world changes. Some things will never change, and Bond will always be Bond, as we know him.

reply

I so hope you're right and that I'm wrong.

reply

Oh, me too.

reply

I keep telling myself that it would be dumb to hand over the franchise to her considering Connery, Moore, Dalton, Brosnan and Craig were all considerably more high profile actors at the time of their first Bond film (she only has one film Captain Marval where she is anything more than an extra) but again I also see how insane the identity politics/PC culture of today is getting.

Yes Lazenby was a newcomer to film when he played Bond but I think everyone pretty much considers him the lesser of the Bond actors.

reply

I guess a woman needs a shit ton of guns to do the job of a man with a little pistol.

reply

Apparently that’s the message, not only that but apparently a woman needs to latch onto an already established franchise with a male lead character in order to get anyone to pay attention to her, at least that’s the message I seem to be getting from the writers and the SJW snowflake crybabies

reply

And then, after taking 007 gadgets, his name, his position, his brand, she will say 'As my friend Ruby Rose says, I'm Not About to Let a Man Take Credit for a Black Woman's Work'

reply

Haha. It's about time.

Action movies are a genre have traditionally skewed towards men pretty heavily in casting. Making a black woman the next 007 is a step in the right direction.

After all, women can do anything a man can do, only better!

reply

Explain, if you can.

reply

So then make a new franchise, it's quite pathetic that you need an already successful franchise to get your point across.

Also this is the JAMES BOND SERIES, James Bond isn't a woman, changing the lead character to a black woman would mean it's no longer the JAMES BOND SERIES, so that would be a stupid move.

reply

What black woman has the name JAMES anyway?

reply

Exactly, this is such a non-issue....

reply

Maybe if they changed the franchise into JAMEYLA BOND...

And maybe change Moneypenny into CA$HDOLLAH

M into M-mm (complete with side-to-side head movement)

Wait, why suddenly I have the urge to watch this movie??

reply

Those ideas sound horrible.

reply

I am not adverse to a movie in the same cinematic universe following a female 00 agent (008?), actually. I think changing 007 to a completely different character just to be woke* is pretty silly. The serious just wouldn't be James Bond 007 anymore, if you take Bond and out of it and give his 00 designation to another.

*And, no, I am not right-wing at all but this excessive wokeness is laughable and often hypocritical.

reply

Also I pointed out earlier in the eyes of many it's OK to change a white character to a black character and not the other way around. I DO NOT want to hear anything about past injustices or discrimination, the idea that people use past discrimination to justify treating people differently today because of the color of their skin is RACIST!!! The civil rights movement I was always told was supposed to be about equality not payback but all I'm hearing right now are excuses and bellyaching.

reply

At least the new 007 is a new character instead of retconning Bond into a black woman, if that's the way you look at it.

reply

Right and I have no problem with her being the new 007 as long as its for a short period of time (Bond did give up 007 in the YOLT novel) as long as Bond is still the main focus of the story and he comes back to MI6 at the end, but it's been rumored she is going to take over the franchise in the 26th film and that would be a really really stupid decision because it would then no longer be the JAMES BOND SERIES and therefore they'd might as well just make a completely new franchise.

What I find most bothersome is in this day and age it seems it would be socially acceptable to turn Batman black but it would be racist to turn Lucius Fox white. I don't care at all about past injustices decades to centuries ago, that entire mindset has created two different sets of rules for being based solely on skin color and its racist.

reply

I'm glad there's finally a 007 who is 5'9"! It's not James Bond but I'll take what I can get.
