Dead franchise

Went down the drain after casino royale.

reply

I stopped watching Bond movies after Roger Moore was replaced

Pierce Brosnan has some hits and misses. The one in the Arctic was awfully boring, but the one that was shot partially in Moscow (can't remember the name), that one is really good.

reply

Golden Eye.

reply

Dalton was good and GoldenEye too.

reply

It pretty much went down the drain with Brosnan.

reply

Daniel Craig has been successful with the movies so no.

reply

Casino Royale was an all time movie and then I agree. QOS was the worst Bond movie ever made, Skyfall has its moments but is very overrated, Spectre is about a mediocre Bond movie as you can get.

reply

Definitely not dead if we’re looking at box office, Skyfall being the highest grossing film in the franchise and Spectre being the second highest.

Skyfall is overrated but still good and Spectre is serviceable if underwhelming. This franchise has survived much worse movies like Moonraker, A View To A Kill, License To Kill, Die Another Day and Quantum of Solace.

If Bond 25 sucks it’ll still probably make enough money to keep the franchise ticking along for the next recasting. The franchise has lasted for over 50 years, maybe audiences will lose interest but Craig’s Bond is still bringing in the financial success and hopefully with Bond 25 he can go out on a high note.

reply

License To Kill is good, what are you talking about?

reply

I know, right? It's one of the best.

Thank you for your thoughtful and well-explained post, OP. You completely exhausted the discussion with all the points you enumerated.

Oh . . . wait . . . you actually presented no argument whatsoever. You just hunkered down and relieved your bowls.

Bond is not a franchise. By passing the test of time, Bond is an institution.

reply

Passing the test of a spell checker also planned in your current commitment to an institution, Mr Bowls?

reply

Well I think it's a dead franchise and i'll throw up some points. Ever increasing technology not only makes traditional spy game stories impossible, it delivers a serious blow to Bond's best gimmick: the gadgets. Bond has forever struggled to be relevant outside of the cold war. Changing social and political trends leave less and less room for a dinosaur like Bond to stomp around. In every respect, the character has to be overhauled so much to stay current, there will soon be nothing in common with the original character beyond the name.

reply

I gave up after Sean Connery

reply

The series has had its highs and lows for 50 + years but it isn't dead. This 5 year wait between movies won't help if the movie is bad, but getting a new Bond for Bond 26 will bring in attention.

This board is like a tumbleweed passing through recently. You'd think people would be a little bit more excited about an upcoming Bond film, but I guess Daniel Craig and Barbara Broccoli don't want people to be excited.
